From Mustangs and Fast Ford's magazine:
While we realize that the magazines with the word "Mustang" in their titles are among Ford's biggest fans, they're also often our toughest critics. That said, we couldn’t wait until the hotshoes over at Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords got their chance to go play with a GT500 at the dragstrip. Not surprisingly, they finessed some eye-opening performance numbers out of the new Shelby: How about a 12.26-second quarter-mile pass with a blazing 117.8-mph trap speed? Although their August 2006 review tried to capture the staff's feelings by saying simply, "It's remarkable how much brute power this automobile has," the MM&FF editors clearly let their numbers do their talking.

The first 1/4 I ran EVER in my life I managed to do it in 12.5 @ 113. With more experience I know I can do much better. No contest between E55 & GT500.
Here's a "slow" 1/4 mile run I did.

I wasn't trying to argue, just saying that I have absolutely NO experience hustling a car down a track and I can do 12.5 consistently (with 200 lbs of stereo in the trunk and a full gas tank). The magazine/factory drivers have been doing 1/4 mile runs for years and they probably killed themselves to get the numbers you are referring to. Other E55 members here run low 12's all day without even trying.

automobile magazine's 500 could only manage a 13.01 but it was a 115mph pass. I would suspect those cars are an even match against ours and the outcome is purely dependant on the driver.

Speaking from personal experience...
manual tranny, high hp/torque and street tires = tricky to launch consistently
automagic, high hp/torque and street tires = much easier
I think the Shelby is a turd and Ford should be ashamed for producing a modern muscle car that weighs 2 tons, but that's another issue entirely

Its interesting to me that the US domestic car builders have basicly left the high end car market to the Europeans (and now even to Lexus). The domestic produces have problems (pension plans, labor unions/too high of pay, etc) which holds them back from a profitability persective, but they have nobody to blame but themselves for not making a domestic high end car line to compete with MB, BMW, Lexus, etc. We have the highest std of living on the planet & a huge "high end target market", yet they continue to let the Europeans eat their lunch. Not real smart IMO. I digress. Sorry for the hijack.

First you gotta find a GT500 owner who is willing to use it! ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I was trying to get one, but all these car collectors were giving into the huge dealer mark ups, and I would bet that half of them are never going to put more than 1000 miles on that beast.
That said, I did see one on the road, but couldn't follow it. It did sound mighty mean though as it passed me.

My Parents-06s500-just sold,06CLS55-K4,2006 R350
My friends dad got a GT500 about two weeks ago. The thing is fast as hell but when my dad lined his CLS up with it the cls won by at least one or two car lengths up to 125. Once ths CLS is Kleemanized it will blow that american muscle off the road!
