E55 K4 vs. M5 video coming soon at M5board

Debate is pretty much over in the US. Stock E55 will beat a stock M5 pretty consistently in the 1/4 mile. Having one guy in an M5 run a great time at Atco does not make the M5 a low 12 second car any more than the 2 bone stock E55's on this board running 11.8's make the E55 an 11 second car. Not to take anything away from that owner's time and skill (Kudos to him), but outliers don't create the norm.
By the way, I guess you decided not to take delivery of an M5? You were number 2 on your dealer list last time you reported on your delivery status.
but i have seen 55k, 63 and an M5, M6 run at the same track, same conditions, and driven by their owners and the M's will always trap higher....
even poor launches or poor ETA times.. the stock M5 would have 2 miles ahead of the stock 55's or 63. (on average)
that darn SMG3 is amazing.. but too bad is not holding up to be as reliable. But that is the price you pay for new technology.
If I had to pick, I take the SMG3 with its bugs over the auto 5 or 7 from AMG. But with 1 condition: the comfort SMG program to be a bit smoother on the shifts for a luxury feel.
Side Note: On the Fontana event: The K2 car's are just amazing. There is no way a K2+ car can loose to a stock M6 or slightly modded M5. But who knows after 125mph? it has not been done yet.
just my .02$
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Btw: in how many European countries can one drive freely at 200 km/h plus? My understanding is that even in Germany, the sections of Autobahn where one can drive at unlimited speed are shrinking.

I DONT BELEIVE THAT stock M6 beat K4 0-150...!!!
Could flatter tyres cause dramatic diff in performance difference ???
Now with pulleys added an ECU upgrade Hamann M6 doesnt not catch ME at all !!!
Owner of that Hamann M6 is dissapointed and has bought SLR !!!
I have not run at a track with an M5 on sthe same day to compare traps. I've run as high as 117.35 mph on 12.15 second runs in my E55. (At Atco on an 80 plus degree day in April.) I'd love to run with an M5 on the same day to see what its traps would be compared to mine. So far, I have not seen time slips for many M5's that trap higher than 116 mph.
Traps are indicative of horsepower. But there are a couple of ways to look at it. Assume car A is running a 12.0 or 12.1 @ 116 mph, and car B is running a 12.6 @ 118 mph. It is safe to say that if the speeds of both cars were measured exactly 12.6 seconds after they launched, car A would not be going any slower than car B. In fact, it would probably be travelling at a marginally higher rate of speed.
Second, if both cars left the tree at the same time, car A will cross the traps 84 feet before car B (115 mph is 168 ft/sec. 168 ft/sec * 0.5 = 84 ft). Assume car B is 16 ft. long - that means car A crosses the traps more than 4 lengths ahead of car B.
The 2 mph higher traps still leaves car B 4 lengths behind. The way for car B to make up the difference is to avoid standing start or creeping drag races.
I was stock, and the M5 had the charcoal filters removed and an xpipe installed....

you've posted the others and its been a while now, so i don't see why its taking so long????
So, stop looking at the carrot. We've had many an opportunity to see M5s in the states, in person, in mags, at our own track event. Its a nice car. But it isn't as fast out of the hole as an E55 (you Euro LC flag waivers exempt). It traps close to the same in the quarter, and it pulls after the quarter. Big deal. Gustav's videos will prove nothing except that his idea of a race to 150 is biased and rationalized to suit his ends. It doesn't matter what the results are at this point... this is more about control and being the center of attention than anything else...
With Gustav, there will always be some excuse for something.
stop asking for the video and he'll get bored watching these posts... then he might post it.

Dr. Phil

Well put.
