Okay, '03 with 27k miles. Lowered with Star via MBenzl. He told me whenever I take the car in for service, tell them never to flash the ecu or my ride height will return to their specs. So, I haven't been in to the dealer for a while and of course get there and as I am telling the service manager all of this and the perception that mercedes is upto something, he too just laughs it off. This was two days ago. I took measurements from the fender to the ground x4 prior to taking it in.
He tells me he is "required" to do all 5 recalls that are due including the dreaded relay. I say " but it is my car and I say you can't. Furthermore, I have a buyer for the car who won't take it if it gets reflashed. I certainly will initiate legal proceedings with mbusa if this deal is affected" . He says " Well, I will see what I can do"
I planned on leaving the car there, but unfortunately, decided to take a look in the candy store (showroom) on the way out. I made it obvious that I may be interested in the S550 sitting there.
Soooooo, I pick it up yesterday and the car is sitting out on the lot and the ride height is exactly the same. I go to check out and she shows me pages of services performed (new shocks , undercar panels and the relay recalll!?)
She tells me the service manager has left and I get in the car and guess what...... I cant' get the tires to hook up at all!? It get's sideways even with
a blast from a 35mph roll.
So what happened? The service order confirms everything as far as recallls was performed . Did they do the relay but just said they did the software "reflash"? Did they really do the reflash and I increased power and they then lowered the car back to my settings? This is clearly unclear to me!!!

Not sure why they told you not to have the M.E. flashed because the car was lowered. Ride height adjustments are made in a seperate control module from the M.E..

As for the other stuff, only your service manager and tech know the answers.

I was just joking about the second part. The training center is in Rancho Cucamonga.

I had my '04 flashed a couple of months ago. Still can spin the tires continuously from a stop on dry flat. Still can spin it in 3rd if the RPMs are right... Haven't noticed a problem.

had an 03 with 36K miles in for the recalls - told them DO NOT REFLASH - they did all the recalls (including pano roof replacement for popping), did the cooling fan mod, and said they made sure they didn't reflash

seriously, the car goes like a bat from hell right now - the stock exhaust has a lot of burble, friend said the car smells a bit rich at lower RPM revs, and the beast pulls like a freight train. I hope to take it to Milan to get some drag #'s of the car stock.

downside - i had to drive 50 mins to another dealer (local dealer 2 mins away doesn't listen to anything I say). worth it? yes!

It seems this reflash is only affecting modded cars....

Hey Ted why dont you have the flash done again ... maybe the flash they originally gave you was corrupt...?

i'm not sure why i bother anymore, but there has been enough information posted in this forum to dispell the myth that the reflash is only affecting modded cars.

i guess the bright side is that people are now at least admitting that the reflash is negatively affecting some cars.
