another e63 dyno..much better

Hello all:

Dyno'd my e63 today. Car has 1050 miles, Temp was 78deg., 81percent humidity, elevation-slightly above sea-level. 5th gear pulls. Results:
Run# HP Torque Mode
1 390.2 372.7 Manual
2 394.6 382.4 Manual
3 402.0 393.1 sp. auto
4 412.4 393.7 sp.auto
5 415.0 390.9 sp.auto
6 416.0 396.2 sp.auto.......17.9% powertrain loss, at 507hp

BEST OVERALL 416 hp/396.2 ft/lbs torque- very interesting that it was the last run!! That ECU seems to keep learning as I went. Aggressive input yields more and more powerful output, it seems.

Pretty happy with the results. I scanned the run sheets at Kinko's and e-mailed them to myself. I am having trouble opening them at the moment. Hoping to resolve and post.
On the way to the dyno I was accelerating as aggressively as I could, w/o getting pulled over, cycling hard from 2k rpm-just shy of rev limiter. I was trying to train the ecu to an agressive driving style. I also turned the car off 3x's to start new "key cycles". (my AMG guy said that the demands over the last few key cycles helps determine the ECU aggressiveness, as well as other parameters)

Sport Auto provided higher #'s than Manual mode. I would have loved to keep going, but the "meter" was running so-to-speak, and stopped when the diff. b/w 5&6th run was w/i 1 HP. My darling was breath'in pretty hard in the dyno shed and it was heating up in there quick.

I am looking forward to doing this again at 10k miles on a cold and dry day..and maybe mix in a little 110 octane gas for kicks.
Very happy since I was prepping myself for 380 Hp. If I got that I was going to sell it . This alleged HP issue was my only hang up about this car. That is resolved for me now and I can start looking for those 19" sl65 style rims as I will not be selling this car.
Next stop.......DRAG STRIP.

Regards,
Happy Pilot e63

Nice....

Sweet numbers pilot e63. Congrats. Where in SC did you dyno? Charleston? I'm here too and would be interested in running my car down for some numbers as well. Was it a dynojet or other?

RENNTech has also dyno'd theirs and got 408 to the wheels. Their conversion factor of 1.23 put it at just over 500HP. Spoke to them today and they said they are positive their numbers are correct as they 'do this all the time'. They also have an ECU upgrade promising around 20HP and 20lb/ft. As soon as I get a few more miles on mine (at 600 now) will get ready for that ECU upgrade and hopefully a dyno pre- and post.

Congrats on the good HP numbers! I am not too surprised.

I think I remember you were considering getting a Gtech Pro. If you have not already done so, you should get it BEFORE you do to the drag strip. That way you can calibrate it for accuracy while you are there.

For my purely selfish reasons, I would love for you to do this, so I can use your correction factor to plug into my Gtech Pro

Yes that was me e63amg, about the g-tech pro. I will pick one up for a friend and I to use soon. He has a new '07 c6 vette, which should be a great car for me to run against in a safe area. we are both curious where we stand alone, as well against each other.

What kind of dyno was this on? Dyno Jet? If a dyno jet then that seems about right.

Pilot e63: I'm happy to hear these numbers! I knew there was something wrong with the early numbers from the E63 dyno's. Enjoy and best wishes from another AMG'er!!!

Blke63amg: Yes, it is here in Chs. There's a few around town but went to a less well known one among the rice rocket boy racers, it's mainly a pure drag racers shop. Good guy, great price and it was the one that I did my old '02 996 911(289 wheels for 320 crank) on and thought those #'s were dead on.Plus, they left me with a good feeling about them. Performance Zone, in N. Chas.

Yes it was a dynojet type.

Good numbers, hopefully a few other guys will dyno after 1000 miles.

Power band is still good at 7200. Very nice.

20+ to list......
Very nice, seems like the stock programming is putting more torque @ the wheels than Renntech's flash.

Hey Medici:
I'm not trying to stoke any e55 vs e63 debate. That has beeen done ad nauseam here. As far as me putting an e55 on it....hum..I'll leave that to others if they choose. After all, I told you where the dyno is. Have at it.

What is looking up is where these hp#'s trend up to. After 10k or 20k miles. It was kind of fun. I'll try again on a cold day and rent that dyno for an hour and just keep going, and going, and going till the #'s go flat, drop off or blow up the engine. If I pick another five, ten, fifteen or even twenty... even better!

Anyway, I feel I can rest easier knowing I got more of what I paid for than... 380 hp. Now, what the hell happened to Derek's or the other e63 dyno #'s. 380 and 384-5, respectively? I can only imagine the psuedo-artificial intel ECU sandbagged their pulls based on previous, less demending inputs by them on the way to the dyno. I believe that even more after my dyno runs today. Look at the HP #'s. They kept steadily climbing with each run, learning that I was wanting more and more out of the engine. Any thoughts???

it's hard to make that assumption unless you have a dyno run showing that YOUR car made less hp than it does now...or maybe you did get one and i just missed it???

I'm saying to put an E55 to have a reference. We all know what E55's dyno consistently at and the E63 #'s are all over the board. A car can make any number if the correction factors are fudged with.

May be worth asking the shop if they have dyno'd any other 55K cars (SL, E, CLS, S, CL) or alternatively a Corvette, Viper, Ford GT, etc. If so they might be able to pull the file and it would serve as a good baseline. Some Dynojets are clearly set up to give unrealistically high readings, although others are configured to read very close to the Dyno Dynamics and Mustang units which are considered to be more accurate.

This shop is not the kind to keep a file. 99% sure. He prints the sheet and dumps it. I do know a guy that has a cl55 in town. JL, can we put your car on the dyno? So we can put down an empirical baseline and see what's what?......I know you're watch'in us over here on the E-board!
