another e63 dyno..much better
Dyno'd my e63 today. Car has 1050 miles, Temp was 78deg., 81percent humidity, elevation-slightly above sea-level. 5th gear pulls. Results:
Run# HP Torque Mode
1 390.2 372.7 Manual
2 394.6 382.4 Manual
3 402.0 393.1 sp. auto
4 412.4 393.7 sp.auto
5 415.0 390.9 sp.auto
6 416.0 396.2 sp.auto.......17.9% powertrain loss, at 507hp
BEST OVERALL 416 hp/396.2 ft/lbs torque- very interesting that it was the last run!! That ECU seems to keep learning as I went. Aggressive input yields more and more powerful output, it seems.
Pretty happy with the results. I scanned the run sheets at Kinko's and e-mailed them to myself. I am having trouble opening them at the moment. Hoping to resolve and post.
On the way to the dyno I was accelerating as aggressively as I could, w/o getting pulled over, cycling hard from 2k rpm-just shy of rev limiter. I was trying to train the ecu to an agressive driving style. I also turned the car off 3x's to start new "key cycles". (my AMG guy said that the demands over the last few key cycles helps determine the ECU aggressiveness, as well as other parameters)
Sport Auto provided higher #'s than Manual mode. I would have loved to keep going, but the "meter" was running so-to-speak, and stopped when the diff. b/w 5&6th run was w/i 1 HP. My darling was breath'in pretty hard in the dyno shed and it was heating up in there quick.
I am looking forward to doing this again at 10k miles on a cold and dry day..and maybe mix in a little 110 octane gas for kicks.
Very happy since I was prepping myself for 380 Hp. If I got that I was going to sell it . This alleged HP issue was my only hang up about this car. That is resolved for me now and I can start looking for those 19" sl65 style rims as I will not be selling this car.
Next stop.......DRAG STRIP.

RENNTech has also dyno'd theirs and got 408 to the wheels. Their conversion factor of 1.23 put it at just over 500HP. Spoke to them today and they said they are positive their numbers are correct as they 'do this all the time'. They also have an ECU upgrade promising around 20HP and 20lb/ft. As soon as I get a few more miles on mine (at 600 now) will get ready for that ECU upgrade and hopefully a dyno pre- and post.

Congrats on the good HP numbers! I am not too surprised.
I think I remember you were considering getting a Gtech Pro. If you have not already done so, you should get it BEFORE you do to the drag strip. That way you can calibrate it for accuracy while you are there.
For my purely selfish reasons, I would love for you to do this, so I can use your correction factor to plug into my Gtech Pro

Yes it was a dynojet type.
I'm not trying to stoke any e55 vs e63 debate. That has beeen done ad nauseam here. As far as me putting an e55 on it....hum..I'll leave that to others if they choose. After all, I told you where the dyno is. Have at it.
What is looking up is where these hp#'s trend up to. After 10k or 20k miles. It was kind of fun. I'll try again on a cold day and rent that dyno for an hour and just keep going, and going, and going till the #'s go flat, drop off or blow up the engine.
If I pick another five, ten, fifteen or even twenty... even better! Anyway, I feel I can rest easier knowing I got more of what I paid for than... 380 hp. Now, what the hell happened to Derek's or the other e63 dyno #'s. 380 and 384-5, respectively? I can only imagine the psuedo-artificial intel ECU sandbagged their pulls based on previous, less demending inputs by them on the way to the dyno. I believe that even more after my dyno runs today. Look at the HP #'s. They kept steadily climbing with each run, learning that I was wanting more and more out of the engine. Any thoughts???

So we can put down an empirical baseline and see what's what?......I know you're watch'in us over here on the E-board! P
