Question... I got keyed!!!

Well, never happened before and I've had some nice toys in the past but my local bodyshop said... A BIG NAIL IS BOUND TO GET HAMMERED
! and a Brabus styled E55 in this town is kind of big nail... I guess to him.... well my driver door and passenger door got tagged pretty deep this afternoon after lunch I'm guessing by someone passing by... well regardless... I need to get it fixed... question to the board, do I let my local body shop do it, or is the paint something special where I need to take directly to MB since it's going to be right in the middle of my car? My shop is a well known shop, but they do mostly Auto Dealer cars, (Mazda, Nissan and such) when they get damaged on the lot or during transport. I don't think they do many high end pieces... and if I have them do the job what should I make sure they do or use to match the car PERFECTLY....

Thanks, it's been a while posting... oh yea what ever happened to those calendars?

if it were me, i wouldnt settle for anything less than a mercedes certified bodyshop, or one that deals mostly in high end euro cars. Dont get too caught up in price, as with body and paint you get what you pay for and unlike many other jobs that can be done cheap, it will be on display for everyone to see! So get it done properly by people who do them on a daily basis. Especially if your fussy like most of us, whereby even the slightest off colour shade that you can only pick from a certain angle would make me want to have it done again!

oh sorry to hear about the keying! sounds like your taking it pretty well, thats the way to be! We all know the type and character and motivation of these people who key cars...

I agree... I'm not really getting stuck on the price... I'm the insurance agent as well as the car owner... so it will get fixed RIGHT!!! So now do I take it to Escondido MB or where....

deff not the first shop you talked about that does the dealer cars, they are high volume shop witch wont be able to do it right. as far as goin to the dealer they probably sub it out to shops like that also. you have to find a shop where all the high end cars are. not just one the whole shop is full of them they will treat your car right.

Dang, I get so pissed when I hear about our cars getting keyed. I feel your pain bro. There's a special place in hell for those scumbags that do that ****. May that piece of **** die the slow painful death he so richly deserves.

There are 2 shops that I would recommend in San Diego. Heard nothing but great reviews about them, but they do charge an arm & a leg.

I'm comforted in knowing that he will never drive, much less own, such a fine automobile.

Sorry to hear that. I don't live in your area, but i agree with the other posters, take it to your MB dealership & ask them about the body shop they use.

Amato's is an amazing shop. I had one of my cars repaired there and the work was phenomenal. You will not be dissapointed at all if you take it there.

I'm sure both are very high quality... waiting now for my adjustor to contact me to verify when I can take it to get it looked at... deductible is $500.00 but my policy pays me loss of use of $50.00 a day and since I have an old '91Redneck truck I can drive... doubt it'll get keyed!

Amato's is nice. Also, if you are REALLY picky, contact Symbolic. They have an amazing paint shop in their restoration section.

Just make sure whoever fixes it uses actual Mercedes-Benz paint. I'm not 100% sure if this is standard with all bodyshops (and knowing the way bodyshops work I don't believe it is) but when my car was keyed (it sucks, I know) my bodyshop used authentic Mercedes paint imported from Germany to ensure a 100% match. I'm sure that you'll take it to a very good place and any decent business I would assume (hope) would use real MBZ paint. Good luck.

Symbolic is quite possibly heaven on earth. Well, all of La Jolla is for that matter.. But Symbolic is what I want my house to look like when I retire. Not to mention just standing out on the street more supercars drive by in an hour than in a year down here in fort worth(less), TX. I envy all you californians (except Hardrvr, very sorry to hear) Symbolic's paint shop is top notch though. I was eying a numbers matching perfect 427 cobra they had in there last december.. Someday.

It happened outside of a Claim Jumpers in Temecula this past Tuesday... I checked but the shopping mall doesn't have security cameras... I guess that's kind of a good sign... knowing this doesn't happen all the time...

Just for kicks what did they charge to paint your bumper?

It's a small job, I think $600 or so...

Jerry,
There is also European Auto Body in Escondido. They specialize in MBs and I think get all work sent there from MB Escondido and Hoehn. Prices will be comparable with Amatos. Quality is similar, but I did not like the attitude. Very nice work, however. Up to you if you wanna mess with them.

The only problem you might encounter with Amato's is how busy they get. I need to get my hood repainted so I called this week and they told me that they couldn't work on my car until Nov. 3rd. I don't mind waiting since I'm in no rush, but this may a problem for others.

Thanks Jangy... I think I will get a quote from them since I will taking my car to Escondido for a recall soon... as a far as waiting... it's not really that bad... so I can wait a while I guess.

I wish there were auto body shops that could use the factory Cermiclear clear coat process. Unfortunately, I know of none since the panels need to be baked under 500 degree heat lamps after application.
