I don't like them either. They seem like they should be on an SUV. Look into Kinesis if you hate HRE and want some that are similar to the ones you have. The Kinesis just have a smoother edge.
I can't speak to most other brands, but there is just no way I could spend the money I do to have a name (ala Brabus) just to have to buy spacers or whatever to get it to work. That just isn't custom to me.

BTW energy, they are "GFG" wheels, not "GNG"
they are model "klessig-5"
now you got me a little concerned if you should even own high quality wheels.
i'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you just went to a shop, pointed and said "i like them....install them"
remember that just because something costs more, that doesn't mean that it is of better quality. kinda like mercedes vs lexus.
everybody including HRE has issues..........

I love how the Kinesis look. Energy, I don't know where you get the idea that the rims on your SL600 aren't "look at me" type wheels. Any chrome wheel is a "look at me" type thing, IMO. I do like the ones on your E55, though.

I agree 100% but I do things backwards sometimes, see I like the wheels on the sl but if you read somewere I wrote I dont like all the crome so I want to powder coat the center and this was my plan since I bought them.
I dont know what color to powder coat them, But it will be either silver or black.
I will post a few pics after its done.

HRE is HIGHLY over-rated and over-priced.
I speak from experience, and have ordered 7 sets for my vehicles, stemming from the 4series up to the 8series and everything in between. The total estimated wait time I've had to endure for the delivery of these wheels has been 1 year and 10 months. RIDICULOUS if you ask me when we are paying top dollar. Most of my orders come through Lucent Motors and the HRE sales rep. overlooking that account is Mike@HRE.
Do they look good? Yes
Are they durable?
No, bend very easily under very minimal strain, even though they claim to use aerospace grade t061 aluminum blabla. It's a load of crud, I would instead consider my past Brabus Monoblock Vs and VIs as champions in the durability dept.; though they weigh significantly more. BBS has also never failed.
Are they worth the wait?
Depends on the buyer, for me avg 1-3 month wait time is no longer acceptable for that kind of money
Are there other comparable forged wheel companies with better deals, slightly faster turn arounds, and similar designs?
Yes. Kinesis, DPE, iForge to name a few (in descending order of best to worst)
Does this info help?
You tell me.

My 2 cents
I am speaking from first hand experience here! GFG is a good quality wheel, but their customer service is the WORST i have ever seen! They do NOT respond to customer calls and the wait for production is ridiculous. I have a set of HRE's and a set of GFG's. HRE far exceeds the quality, look and customer satisfaction in my house! I will never recommend GFG!

No matter how meticulous those HRE's are built they do the same as the ones on every other car. HRE nor Kinesis rim at no cost will increase or make anything better with regards to performance, handling etc. You are not missing out on anything.
