Feeler....E63 rotors for E55

Does anyone know the technical stats on these rotors? I'm mostly concerned with the steel dimensions as the hat can be made to order. I know they are 14.2" but what is the width and sweep?

Assuming any of this leads to some high end 2 piece cryo rotors for right at $2K would anyone be interested or should I just worry about the Jangydoolittle?

Not yet. They should be here tomorrow or monday. Depending on how they look side by side to an OEM E55 rotor, I'll risk it and pay to test it on.

What do i need to look for, other than dimensional?

The E63 rotors are much stronger and more powerful than the E55 rotors which were prone to cracking. The ceramic pads also help. I am getting less brake fade as well with the brake setup on the E63. They feel very much like my CLS55 with 030 and its compund brakes.

I will let everyone know as soon as i try them. Keep in mind that the rears on the E63 are NOT composites, so they are not a solution at this point. Even if the E63 fronts work, it will simply be a "nice" upgrade, but not a full out one.

Ok, so it is now official. The E63 rotors (front) fit perfctly onto the E55 setup. i have NOT done any true test drive. They simply put the car on the racka nd replaced the passenger side on just to test fit. I am buying them for $730 a piece and having Porterfield pads made to match. We'll see how it goes. Wish me luck. Now to get the rears set up.

when the stock 63 rotors wear out, do you change the rotor and hat or just the rotor and re-use the hat?

That is an option on the owner. the rotor / hat combo is a set sold all together, but Brembo makes an identical spec'd rotor that could be used. i do not know the life time on a hat. i was planning on replacing both by then, and probably the calipers as well.

i guess we'll see how mbz deals with it. those things are quite expensive to be putting on a stock car that everyone must replace when they wear out. wow. is that price you are getting cost or retail?

i was walking next to my office yesterday and saw a the new amg s class. the brakes on that car looked amazing.... but that isnt' the car for jangy's palomar run!

No, but is the same rotors. My cost is $730. Retail is Just over $1000. Heck, EVO's are $2000 for all four so paying a slight premium over that for AMG parts is a no brainer for me.

They do fit, yes. The tech was able to assemble EVERYTHING using my E55 calipers and pads. The Rotor from the E63 did fit onto the E55 right side. I did not try the left side. I will do that next week (time permiting). Also, I never drove it or even tried the brakes to have them compress. He simply opened the bleed valve, removed my old rotor, replaced everything and looked at it and then put all my E55 parts back together, bled and filled the fluid. That is it. It looked good enough to me to risk the $730 X 2 to try it out. I also spoke with Porterfield about getting some high performance street pads as well.

Jangy, those 2 piece floating rotors are actually made by Brembo(they are stamped brembo if you look closely on top of the rotor) and so are the calipers. Did you consider changing to the E63 larger 6 piston calipers also, or you just want to do the rotors?

I like the 8 piston setup better for me. I will eventually go to full aftermarket brakes and I will likely go brembo then. No need to just go E63, if I am going to change everything. For now, I am looking for a simple upgrade to the E55 brakes and rotors and pads is enough.

But you already have 8 piston brembo calipers, they are not made by AMG, they just slapped the AMG decals on them. The E63 like i said before has 2 piece composite front brembo floating rotors which is the only thing you need, again they are not AMG and have brembo 6 piston calipers with the AMG decals slapped on them also. The gran turismo kits have 2 piece floating rotors but they are not composite, so therefore the E63 are much better than them.

I know all of that. The EVOSport Rotors are also made by Brembo, but that doesn't mean that a Brembo high performance caliper is the same as the one they made for AMG. I think we are both agreeing on the deal. I am just looking to upgrade the rotors for now. My complaint with the E55 calipers is two fold. One, they are heavy. and two, they don't dissipate heat as well as I'd like. Someday, I plan to change them, but until then I will just upgrade my rotors and pads.

Oh, ok. The set up with the rotors and porterfield pads will work really well for you. You might not even have to upgrade to a high performace setup. Good luck, when are you getting them installed?

Getting the rotors next week, but it will be 2 weeks before I get the pads.
