Nice black E55 spotted in La Jolla

12pm on La Jolla Village Dr. Couldn't tell if the rims were dirty or powdercoated charcoal. You need a wash Jangy!

HAHA!!! BUSTED!!

That was me. The front rims are stock and the rears are coated. And yes, the car is as nasty as ever. It's the first time I've even been in it in a while. I wanted to test the MP design wheel out.

I plan on taking a nice spin this weekend. I could swear that wheel makes the car feel like it handles better!!

Jangy,

It's not your imagination bro, the car does handle better because you have a better grip on the steering wheel.

R,

So you like having a half wood and half leather wheel? I totally detest that. I had that in my S55 and it loooked fantastic but the second you try to shuffle steer and actualyy get moving you suddenly cant drive!

I found the difference in friction between thet leather and wood made quick turning difficult. Also if you have any moisture on your hands when driving the wood became really slippery!

I even found it hard to drive with leather driving gloves.

But for style the wood leather combo is perfect.

If you notice MB used a wheel that had wood inlayed in the front of the wheel but kept leather in the back of the wheel (for grip reasons) on cars that were deemed sproty -- aka the SLK and the SL's of the early 2000's -- for the reasons I stated above. Sports cars normally have just leather (or alcantera) or solid wood (old british vehicles of course) for the same reason.

Love the MP wheel but would have gone for solid leather and no wood!

All good points, but I do love the wood/leather combo. I'm a sweaty pig with happy hands, but no slipping yet. I guess gloves MAY be needed if I do. The look is just SICK.
