Anyone seen a CTS-V Salt Flats with graphics on it?

I ran into one in my neighborhood and tried to play a bit but not much came of it.

I really really wanted to take the Benz out to the Salt Flats, but they said I would HATE it. Said with the wide tires and no super downforce, the car will feel like on ice and wiggle all over the place.

So much for that childhood dream.

That is totally not true. I will be taking the E when I am done with mods and kill the restrictor. 200mph will be my target. Why on earth would the E be bad at the flats if it does so well on the road? I'm on twisty and uneven roads blasting 150 and it feels like 80. I ran 150 on the flats in my old M3 loaded with everything i onwed and it was WAAAy more stable than on the highway.

These cars were designed to run at these speeds, I dont really see a problem at the Salt flats. I have been there when people were running experimentals all the way down to stock autos and bikes. Jangy when you are ready lets hit up the flats and see what these babys can really do.

I have been planning on a trip for a few years. When we get the power ready. i want to hit 200. I have not seen any proof of anyone doing it in an E55, so i thought it would be a nice milestone. VRUS is already taking the 700hp mark. The best 1/4 mile times are also already being pushed, so i figured 200mph was still open.

I hit 170 mph in my 2004 E55 and it was very smooth. There was easily more room to get 20-25mph out of it from my estimation.

Regards,

Darren

Lund Cadillac in Phoenix sponsored a 217-mph Vortech-blown V6 CTS at Bonneville in 2004 (http://www.lundcadillac.com/bonn/bonn2004.wmv).

They claim "World's Fastest Cadillac - Bonneville Salt Flats". May have been one of their cars w/ aftermarket mods and promo graphics.

There is no way that you'd run your E on the salt. It would destroy your car and it is like running on ice. Very poor traction and you do slip/slide quite a bit.

I ran my M3 there and traction was EXCELLENT. Also, the course itself is far smoother than ANY asphalt I have been on. Granted, the car does get covered in salt, but many Benzes do that every winter.

aren't you required to have a roll cage and other safety equipment (hood pins) for a car that is going to be running near 200mph?

I had looked into doing this last year and that seemed like a deal killer to me. I could be thinking of another place though, its been a while since I looked into it.

I was right here are the rules for the 130mph and 150mph classes http://www.saltflats.com/I30%20Club.html

I guess you could enter in the 130 class go 200 and let them kick you out!

You are right about the rules and I was not planning on avoiding them. That is why the plan is for AFTER the mods. It is the ultimate task for the car. Once it makes that run, it will most likely get studded and be sent to relax in pasture land.

so you are really going to install a roll cage in an '06 E55??????

I'd love to see a 55 break the 200 mark, that's dedication!

Installing a roll cage in my ride is the least of my worries.
