I read this a few months ago and I like coming back to read it again. I think the owners of these animals appreciate the article.
I've also heard the car referred to as the "excutive hot rod" How true -

Boy, do I enjoy reading post like these. I brings a big ole smile on my face, knowing that I'm an owner of these fabulous AMG cars. All hail the power of the big block lurking under the hood, of my E63.

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
I think a lot of people forget that in 2003 the M5 was the king of the jungle with 394hp and then you had the RS6 with 450 hp although they were rarer. Then the E55 comes along with 493hp! 100 more then their biggest rival, the M5 (which I love btw). And torque?! Forget about it. Crazy torque. Peak HP is one thing but torque down low is where it really is.
Consider that it ran with the Z06 at the time and could pull on a regular corvette and run toe to toe with a 996 turbo.
The E55 was truly ahead of its time. Despite the aggressive nature of the super sedan market it wasn't until 2009 with the Caddy did we see something that one upped the E55 in power and even then, it held it's own. BMW won't out do that until 2011, 8 years later, with the F10 M5.
Just something that I think gets overlooked with the almighty E55.

Been a member for as long it it says on my thing on the left hand side. First time I read this thread.
You sir are a real car lover. You are the kind of person who drives at night with the windows rolled down and tries to figure out what RPM he's in by listening to the engine.
Good talk.

I enjoyed this read, and can identify with it. The first time I drove an E55 I was blown away! Amazing power from a relatively understated exterior. Having only owned my E63 since this past weekend, I can only say that I am hooked, and fear I may never be 'human' again, since driving this car makes your soul into something from the dark side. I almost look for an excuse to be evil and drop the hammer on the open road. What have I become?

Agreed. I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I took my E63 in for some additional warranty repairs and two of the Mercedes Service Department people came up to me at separate times and said that I have one heck of a car, and that they are 'bada$$' cars (both people used the same description. They also apologized when giving me my C-Class loaner car, and said, 'We know this is nothing like what you have,' with a certain look of shame on their faces. Even the dealership recognizes how special these cars are, and how different they are from the regular Mercedes.

On the dealer side note, it's unfortunate they have their bit of fun with it while it's there... I caught 2 lot jockeys ripping up and down the parking lot in my beast the last time it was there.

I think the ultimate tease is to debadge the beast and no one would really know anything except for the quad tip exhaust. It is truly a wolf in sheeps clothing.

But the thing is that the people that know what E55 / E63 or AMG means, will know what to look for at other places on the car to identify it. So taking the badges off does not fool those who know what the badges mean anyway.

2004 E55 AMG
The person you responded to meant that as well. Most people don't even know what the E55 is, much less if it's debadged. He meant that debadging or not, the only group of people that will even know what the car is capable of, will know what to look for. You can't fool the enthusiasts.
