Is the squeal from the floating rotor moving in its mountings or from the friction of pad on disc ..?

Floating rotors have been known to be noisy ... perhaps some lube on the hat/disc connecting pins ?

The E63 I had for test (had >8000miles on odo) also had squeal and it annoyed me after just 2 days ... but the brakes are great on this car in terms of feel - not sure if they stop any quicker than pre-emptive E55 setup - but feel is 1000 times better.

According to my Mercedes service guy, it's not normal. Don't settle for that answer. Make them do it right. See my post above. Mine was as bad as anybody's. My brakes are now completely squeal free.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
I run the pizz out of my car and brake vigorously daily...~110 to 30 on a routine basis. Haven't heard a squeak out of any of my 4 MBs. I'm a firm believer in abusing your brakes, they seem to prefer it.

My E63 back in the shop and my service manager is looking to do the complete job and replace pads, rotors and re-seat everything properly. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I will let you know how we do.

As discussed in this thread, the brakes certainly work well, but for the price we pay for these cars, the brakes should not only work sell but they should not scream like an old dump truck! This brake issue does not seem to affect every E63 but from the responses and PM's I have received, it seems to be a problem that is affecting 50% of the cars, of which another half seem to be manageable. The fact that the issue seems to be resolving itself with a brake pad and rotor replacement seems to point to a production problem.

We will see...............................

Squeal from Friction of pad on disc and only happens at v/slow speed.

Hello all.

I am back from the shop with a new set of front and rear pads. The brake pads were beveled, the backing plates were lubed and brake squeal was applied. So far, I have seen fifty non-squeak miles.

I suspect the real news will be if this fix lasts for the next couple of hundred miles. The rotors were not replaced (as requested) and it was jointly agreed that this will be next on the hit list if the problem comes back.

I will reiterate, excessive brake noise is not normal and should not be tolerated.

Thanks for all the comments received to date. I will keep you advised.

Hope it works out for you. Having been through this drill I can sympathize with your plight. From my experience, the replacement pads and lube lasted about 100 miles. As I noted above, according to my service tech, the only way to resolve the problem is to replace the rotors and "properly" seat the new ones. Anything less could mean more squealing.

I have had the AMG Performance Brake System for more than 1200 miles.
It does not make any noise. Has been always smooth. and I do punch it more than 50% of the time I drive it. No problems. Up to 186mph no problem.
I think if you just wash your car after running hard that really does something to the rotors and therfore, pads alignment. Just let it cool down and wash it intead of spraying that mad cold water on the hot surface. I bet most of you who are experiencing this noise problem did this even though you say you haven't.

My brakes squeak, although not so offensive it drives me crazy. Car has 4000 miles. Noise started at 2000.

jlee81, i wash my car on sundays before i drive it and have noise, which doesn't support your theory.

I was just giving you an example of why it would make noise. Then yours could be just a defected product? Proper break-in and maintanance is important for brake system.

well are you 100% sure you don't get water into the brake rotors and pads and calipers wehn you wash you car and before you drive? do some real hard braking to see if it can get rid of rush you don't see within the brake system.
