E63 front rotors for E55 update

OK, Like I said before the visual on the E63 rotors looks like a match for the E55 fronts. I can get them for $730 a piece and should have them in hand in a few days. What pads do I get? Anyone know the part #, etc?
Wish me luck, as this is a $1500 gamble as the rotors are NOT returnable after mounting. If they do not work, I am toast. If they do, then I am hoooooked up.

Please update when you have more info.

I am following your brake project closely. I will be replacing my brake soon as well and wanted something better since I will be taking my E55 to the track.

Cheers

You take care of POPs!!
Are we still in on this 50/50? Haha!!
The other is fine. read the emails I sent you. The rears threw a wrench at me, and the fronts looks so perfect that I need to try. Also, I assume your people can't beat the price, right?

I am having custome ones made up (if they can). The cost will be $500 per rotor the way I like them. From there, any machine shop will be able to replicate the hat and the cost will drop.

I'm not as worried about the rears for now. I am finding out that there is not going to be quite the weight savings that people have claimed. There is lots to gain in the fronts, but I'm only seeing a potential 5lbs in the rear.

Hey Jangy before you mount them make sure the disc offset from the hats are identical.... I mean 100% not even 1/64" out.

We are using calipers to make sure. They look IDENTICAL. But, what i did not take into account would be the width of the aluminum hat that will get bolted down. If it is a different width than my current, then we may have offset issues there also.

Any other thoughts before I spend all my money??

I would say stock pads ... If they dont fit with stock pads then there is a problem. They need to fit the caliper more than worry about the disc - later you can fool around with after market stuff to match the disc characteristics better.

The more I think about this the more I thing evosport is perhaps a better all round swapout - and you get the rears too...

Mbe get teh two side by side and have a look ... The E63 that had 8k miles on that I tested had some serious brake squeal... mbe it was the disc mbe something else... but it was pretty annoying.

How much of a weight savings is there by swapping out the front rotors and calipers?

which part of the rotor gets rusted on the evilsport ones? the outer edge? is it something you could paint with primer pre-install to prevent?

I am keeping the stock calipers. The weight savings on the front rotors alone is almost 15lbs per rotor. I will know for sure Friday.

Thanks for your response. I definitely plan to match up the pads to the calipers, but i wanted to go ahead and get it all in one shot. I just didn't know which pads are "best" for the E55 calipers. Unfortunately, EVOsport rotors are not an option right now. I would consider the rears, but have not found a way to source just them (without the fronts). I like the AMG ones anyway and want to give it a try, assuming all the measurements line up.

Yes you could. It is just the part of the rotor that does not get rubbed by the pads.

Nice, is it a reliable shop? Does he do MBs in general, or all around? Any other stuff he does? I need to find someone I like.

he is the ONLY guy i let touch any of my MBZ, he is fully certified, and he has customers ship cars from all over to him (Nevada, and the farthest was Ohio) and he is a good honest guy. most of his work is on older mbz, but he does work on new cars too. he does a lot of custom work, he has done all of the mods on my sl (ecu, full suspension, lowering, breaks lines, breaks, custom cut carbon Kevlar break pads for the Brembo calipers) and on my E500.

anyway, here is his number, give him a call and chat about your idea.
his name is Jr.
