Bridgestone Tires

Anyone have experiece with Bridgestone RE960's? I am starting to shop for new tires and the guy at the shop was raving about these. I was originally going to go with the PS2 or P-Zero's but the guy said these performed better and were quieter.

And Bridgestone says they will guarantee 40K miles on them which seems very bizarre for a Y rated tire.

Thanks
Mike

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
Got the RE050A's and they are much better than the conti's ... especially in the dry ...

Cannot really say about the 960's but I would probably get the 050's again.

The Re960's are a good tire but they are an all season compound. In real life what that means is that they will have about 80-85% of the grip of the ps2/gsd3/re050a pp/ of the world. They will NOT last 40,000 miles on your type of car, possible an e350 but not a e55 due to the weight/hp/and lack of rotation ability. Unless you need an all season (snow capable) tire , please do yourself a favor and buy a summer tire.. my recommendation in the stock sizes would be the re050a pp. Good luck.

Mike,

There is NO WAY performance tires last 40K... They are pulling your legs!

I know 40K is craziness, that is why i had to post to get forum feedback! They even said Bridgestone guarantees it which is what peaked my interest.

I don't need an all season tire as the car doesn't see the roads much when it is raining so I am looking for good suggestions as well.

Mostly trying to see which way most went when buying new tires.

Some people dispraise the ContiSportContact2 tires but I think they should have a look at some tests. Yes, a Michelin PilotSport2 or Bridgestone RE050A does some better on dry than the Contis but SportContact2 is a much more all-round tire. It beats them all on wet in terms of traction and handling and has much more aquaplanning tolerance. Also Pirelli PZero Nero has a similar character but Michelin and Bridgestone really suck on wet.

If you say you never go out when it's raining then it's a different story of course. On sole dry roads PS2 or RE050A would be better choice.

Cyclone how much Continental stock do you own? jk. The general consensus atleast in the states is that the Conti 1 or 2 are just above average tires in all respects. The PS2/GSD3/RE050a PP/Advan Sport are much more current design tires with more technology in them thus they have very good dry and wet grip. I speak these words with the prior experience of driving on all of the aforementioned tires extensively and also being an expert as I am in the tire business. It's not to say the Contisport2's are a bad tire or that the new Conti3's won't be a good tire but to say the Ps2 or the Re050a pp suck in wet is a total falsehood.

Local tire shop tried to sell me on the 960's as they are listed as the replacement for the Bridgestone Potenza S-03's which have been discontinued. I opted for the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A's after consulting with an expert. They are an excellent replacement high performance summer tire to the S-03's. I have put about 5,000 miles on them. Grip is excellent. You will give up a lot of performance if you go with the all season 960's. A simple test would be to put the tires side by side and simply step on the sidewall. You will notice a significant difference in the rigidness of the sidewalls. Although the RE050's are a bit noise, they are a much better option.
