Father/Son story. Unhappy ending
#26
I had the same experience right after my 03 AMG was broken in. Pulled up next to a C5 conveetile Vette with Dad and son at an empty light...I felt like crap after the race pulling 8 cars on him to 100mph. Son probably though Dad's car was #1 and Dad was #1....so how do you explain that to your son that dad and the car are still cool?

Rock, that was just cruel LOL. A Boxster, oh my God. Was on the highway a few months ago with an E55 along side - not sure if he wanted to do anything because I pretended I didn't see him and kept looking the other way.
BTW Rock, I still crack up when I think about your comment when I sold my beast - "the hunter has become the hunted". (that may change if you look at my sig. - I just need to tell my wife I ordered it LOL).

Well, there are other facets of driving. Both cars have their pluses and minuses and were certainly designed with different objectives.

It is a baby-P car thing.
In the early 90's, I had a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo with some bolt ons. I pulled up at a light. I was in the left lane. In the middle was a cake boy (old school reference) in his 968 convertible. His friend was in the right lane. The p-car driver says loudly to his friend "I'll meet you there in a bit. I am going to blow this guy into the weeds." He said it loudly on purpose.
I still remember his expression in my rear view mirror before I shifted to third and he turned off the road.
Now - Hardly anyone wants to race me.

Nice story!
Son:
..."but dad this isn't our exit!"
Dad:
"IT IS NOW!!" (muttering under his breath..."damn AMG's think they own the road")
I love the write up in an old Motor Trend that was comparing the E55 to the RS 6 and said...
"each is also capable of sending a normally proud Porsche 911 pilot straight to a therapist." ..."Annoying little Boxster S in the next lane? Just mash the throttle pedal and humiliate."
Love our E55's!

Loving those Motor Trend quotes. There's something so satisfying about driving fast sedans. Sports car drivers have everything to lose. I'll admit to being one of those who looked the other way when a CL65 was trying to goad me last winter in my 996. Unluckily for him, I know those cars rule the highway. I've been alongside and behind a bunch of E55s since getting my S4. I keep a respectful distance and I think they know I realize what they have under the hood so i've never had a problem with one. If I get the forthcoming RS6 though i'm not going to be so shy

I had a Black 91 TT and traded it in for a Silver 95 TT. Thought I was hot stuff when I got my 95 to run a 13.1 @ 110.5 at e-town in 1996 on Gatorbacks. Back then, that was fast.

I had a "friend" who had just got a TT 300zx in a really cool green color he had had it about 2 weeks. He was kinda a jerk but he is no longer with us so I will leave it at that but I burried the guy in my 1992 GMC typhoon-to about 50mph. I loved it. my buddy who was in the car talked S*%T all week to the guy and the guy in his car.
(God - am I getting old?? Have I become the guy who used to go on boards when I was 18 and talk about how sweet Impala's were??)

I had a 1993 RX7 TT in 1993 and would always stand down to the mighty GN and GN-X which were on the road tweaked for the past 5-8 years at that point. Everyone else I would whip *** on with just Peter Ferrel's 360HP kit I was pulling 12.4s@114...this was before the Supra following got its mods and became a 12-sec car by 1995...on its way to an 8sec car in 2000.

On Fast and Furious 2 (Tokyo Drift)...they had a Rx7 with a veilside widebody kit...nice...! I'm still amazed at what can be done to the Supra Turbo...

2006 E55 AMG
Funny story...but so is this. Day before yesterday we were cruising back from the Yamaha dealership in my son's 9,000 lbs. Ford F-250. There were a couple of guys in a Boxter at the same light as us and the driver was actually revving on us. The car had a "used car" sticker in the window so they perhaps were taking it for a test drive. Now, who's going to race a big pickup truck with their YFZ 450 quad in the back against a sports car? My son, that's who...because he has a little surprise under the hood. Banks tuning. Needless to say, the 38" tires were smoking and after the tires hooked up, the Boxter quickly disappeared in the rear view mirror. Game over. I wonder if they decided to pass on purchasing the Boxter.
