Hey y’all
Ben concerned about my e63 lately. This am I started the car it spewed a lot of dark smoke. Also, I have been hearing valve noise. A lot of ticking. Sounds like a valve sticking. Also the check engine light is on…Any thoughts?

I know the ticking noise is supposed to be "normal" from the 63 engine the rest sounds like good reasons to visit your dealer ASAP.

The ticking is normal on all benzes, but especially on the high compression 63s. The smoke and check engine are NOT!! Get her in. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and give no excuses, i.e. mods, just in case this is the start of something you don't want to get stuck with.

Thanks for the concern everyone.
I have an appointment in the morning. I’ll let everyone know the outcome.
As for the ticking sound, I don’t think it’s the injection system. It’s more like a knocking sound and it has happened a few times before when the car is cold.

I took the car to Fletcher Jones this morning. They told me it would be at least 2 days to diagnose. Btw…based on my initial experience I’m not sure I’ll ever go back. I’m told that I should have an answer sometime tomorrow. I’ll let you know.

Got the car back today. Never go the Fletcher (long story)! They told me they could not reproduce the smoke or the knocking sound. Okay, since it has not happened consistently. They did replace the intake manifold gaskets and told me that it’s a MB Service Alert for the 63. 63 Owners might want to check into it.

my e63 did the same thing yesterday i turned it on and a bunch of smooke came out the exhaust and the car sounded like it was going to shut off .....but no check engine light , anyway i gotta take it to the dealer this week to change my cats

Transmission Leak
Curious to see if you have noticed any transmission fluid in your garage. About a month ago I had smoke coming from the exhaust, got home noticed fluid on the garage floor had dealer tow it in and it turned out to be a broken seal causing transmission fluid leak. On the AMG board there was an SL55 , CL55 and another E55 with the same seal issue. One of the members said the service department mentioned that this was not uncommon with these cars. Anyway they fixed it the same day and smoke and leak were gone.

I've got a little over 11k on my E63. I've had the puff of smoke once...but I felt this to be semi common in high performance cars...they always tell you that high performance engines burn a little oil. Haven't had the check engine light come on.
No ticking sounds, but I'm disappointed to say that I've started to hear my car ping more...I guess I'm just getting used to its roar and in doing so I'm weeding out a "ping ping" sometimes when I push it. Ugh I h8 91 oct.
