Question about Nano Tech Paint

Does our 04 E55 have the Nano Technology paint? I have notice that they is very little rock chips on my E55 vs my older 03 CLK55 and 03 C class. I am just asking as I was going to repaint my front bumper for some minor scratches. I dont want to repaint if I am going to not get the nano paint technology on there..... Thanks...

DarkStar is correct, open the driver side door and look for the paint code. For Brilliant Silver the code is 744 and if you have nano technology it will be coded as C744.

Before you do it make sure your body shop is capable of working with the Nano clear. I have heard that not all shops are capable of using whatever makes it different.

No one can put NANO paint back on the car. There are clear coats that are designed to bond to the nano paint see on these cars (for blending etc). So I would not re-paint for minor marks unless you are willing to have tons of chips once again.

Nano can only be applied at the factory and then baked on with extreme temps.

If you are unfortunate enough to get in an accident, the same paint technology cannot be applied. In the state of CA, insurance companies do not allow for diminished value because they take the position that once it is repaired, 'it is as good as new' because repair shops are so good nowadays. I would love to hear their explaination on this issue.

There are shops around in So. CA that are approved by MBUSA to apply paint but there isn't anyway of doing the NANO due the temp it's baked on...

Its awesome IMO, I have 31k miles on my 04 E55 and have minimal rock chips but I know that with any normal painted car the rock chip amounts would be huge based on my driving- All my recent M series Bimmers had such soft paint and the wifes Lexus paint is no better. The nano paint shows less swirls especially in the darker colors- supposedly 30% less.

My M's were a E39 2002 M5 and an E46 2003 M3 both did have a great fit and finish but the paint chipped. This nano paint is amazing, it rarely chips but when it does its a deep cut.

Most of the more recent 2004's and newer have it- you can check on your door jam. Silver cars dont need it that bad in relation to swirls but owners of black cars swear by it. Just dont ever get in an accident because its not replicable.

The only polish that works well on the nano paint is Menzerna. My SL55 is black and the results with menzerna are fantastic. Other polishes with any cut just cloud the paint.

I think after mid model 2004 it became standard but it wasnt an option, you either had it or you didnt. I know the 2003's did not get this technology. I got mine in March of 2004 and the build was Jan 2004- it has the Nano Paint.

My 03 E55 has the Nano Paint, my 04 E500 does not. So, yes the Nano was available for 03's as well.

I had some repair work done to my e55 in Feb of 05 I think, and I went nuts trying to find a dealer that could contact the manufacturer to get the Nano paint. He supposedly was held up on getting the clear for it, and even showed me a couple of cans, but never got a good look. I did notice, though, that the factory resistance to scratches and chips was not there anymore.
