Oil For E55 and S55

There has been much to do about Mobil 1 and that it is no longer a true 100% synthetic product, but actually a blend now. What are owners using these days?? True 100% synthetic brands such as Royal Purple are available.

I just changed the oil in my S55 with Mobil-1 0W-40. Got it from the local Advanced Auto Parts store for $5.99 per quart.

Is a 100% synthetic oil supposed to be better for AMG cars?

Though you are correct Mobil 1 is no longer synthetic, all Mercedes can still use it just fine. I changed my oil with 0w-40 this past weekend.

As far as "better", someone has to be the guinea pig and try an oil not approved by Mercedes.

filled 0w-40 just 1 month ago. took 8qts!!! DAMN thats a lot!! i would stay with Mobile 1. it is a great oil and now that they have longer life, its only better. i also use Amsoil, that stuff is GREAT!!! Royal purple is also another top runner.

i would stay with what the factory reccomends. but then again, the other top line runners...who knows.

Not all Mobil 1 products meet the MBz quality standards, of course.

Hot off the press, guys:

Mobil 1 0W-40 and 5W-40 are the only oils factory approved for the 5.5L supercharged engine.

E63,,,not any more,,,BMW X5 50i
Mobil 1 0W-40
A fully synthetic motor oil, Mobil 1 0W-40 with SuperSyn Technology exceeds industry standards and the major leading builder requirements, enabling the product to keep performing well after conventional oils cannot. Mobil 1 is recommended by leading car manufacturers as initial fill.

According to the Mobil website....it claims that it is a fully synthetic motor oil...there are some Mobil oils that are a blend...but not Mobil 1.

Did I miss something, or am I reading the website wrong

Oil changes for the M5 don't come cheap either...Takes 8 quarts of Castrol TWS 10W-60 @ around $15.00 a quart...

Don't think too much. I saw under hood has small sticker say: Mercedes Benz and AMG recommend Mobil 1
So, I thought Mobile 1 is the best oil for Mercedes vehicle.
