03 E55 Asp (full Strength) Finally
guys,
I bought my car in Sept 06 from Florida.
It had 15k miles, CPO, extended warranty and most of the options. (NO Pano or Navi)
I installed ASP pullies in October.
But I noticed a few things right away
*Bad IC Pump
*ambient temps on my guage were over 100F
*jerky transmission
*clutch engament was loud and rough
*octane setting probably not at 91 oct.
Finally the AMG gods answered my praper at NO CHARGE BY THE dealer.
They replaced:
coolant pump and new coolant
they serviced my radiator
they found a leak on my trans and corrected and new trans fluid
they replace the transmission control unit
they replaced my pulley tensioner
they set my ECU at 91 oct.
and they did some other work with the A/C, air pump ect.. I'll try to post my scans of my visit. Just in case you have the same problem.
BEST of all.. they did not give me hassle for my ASP crank pulley.
PENSKE MOTORCARS (WEST COVINA)
I'm still a bit upset I had to dish out $690 for diagnosing my C32 with a bad kompressor pulley and clutch.
The Verdict:
Shifts are firm. No more jerky 1st and 2nd.
Torque is really stronger after 2k
Power delivery is a lot stronger after 4.5k (before it would fall flat)
No more power loss after a few aggressive runs on the freeway.
Either the ASP pullies are really stealthy or they didn't really bother to mention it.

I bought the car used from Florida.
I'm not sure if Penske is any better than MB of Anaheim (my previous shop) but atleast no hassles with the loaner.
No dyno's yet... and I'm probably won't do it anytime soon. My butt dyno tells me that I'm running healthy compared to before.
thanks,
joe

The MB tech who installed my ASP pulley privately said no one would really notice the pulley on the car but the give away is the different SC belt manufacturer label ...

During my next scheduled maintenance, I will try to get the new 06 clutch pack.
Either way.. the kompressor engagement will still be more harsh than stock, so there no going around that.
so far.. I have only used the car with my 2 boys and wife and I have not had the chance to test the beast.
Last night.. there were a few cars going around me on the freeway since I was going 70 in the middel lane. some were a bit disrespectful... but I had to let it go and wait when I'm alone in the car.
one thing I still notice is that my ambient temps on my dash board still 1 bar below 100. I probably should have the -10 fan mod done next as well.

Your going to want to upgrade your ic pump or system w/ a evo sport one. your in So cal and it gets hot there. your car will always run hot and really hot when you pin it w/ the asp pully.

but I'm not keeping the car that long and I hardly even race anymore
(3 tickets in one year)
I'll do the johnson pump and the fan mod.
After that... I'll start saving for the E63. I love the torque, but the kompressor set up is getting old for me. I have 2 cars to deal with.
I'm really looking to move to the 335 from my C32 and replace my E55 with a 1 year old E63 or CLS63.

over the week-end I move my spring booster from the C32 to the E55.
it took literally 5 mins for each car... (it took longer to find the right socket)
results:
you will see a drop in MPG.
you will pass cars without trying
need to drive in C mode, S is way too aggressive but nice to have just in case.
before.. i would feather the pedal to avoid stating to quick. Now in C mode, the response of the pedal is perfect.
I would recommend.
I have yet to experience any more Komp shut off so far... so everything is working fine.

I have had it since about August of last year on my C32.
Now the E55 has it and its great. I'm thinking of buying another one for my C32.
Basically, the chip adds more input for you. I think its like 25 to 35% more input.
If you notice some american cars or even some japanese cars, their throttle input is very touchy. Well it will make any Benz feel the same way. Sometimes my E55 or C32 feel to unresponsive in you feather in the throttle from a stand still or making a turn. This will help you drive more comfortable since you won't need to stomp the pedal to get up a go.
