Carbon Fiber wheels

Hey guys I have seen some of these wheels and wanted to know if the weight savings is worth the $$. I think they say the stockers weigh 30lbs and these would be like 15-18lbs so 12-15lb saving per corner. I know there is a formula about unsprung weight = x amount of hp gain. The wheels are about 2k each and I just wondered if they would make a difference on a 4500lb car or if the money is better spent on ecu tunes, airboxes and exhaust?

i have bst carbon rims on my duc and they make a HUGE difference there but i wouldn't waste the money putting them on an 4k+ lbs car.

I have no idea of the efficiency enhancement the carbon fiber wheels would net (as HP. gain). I would think the lighter cars would stand to benefit the most. My guess is that you might feel a bit of difference in handling and ride before feeling greater acceleration. Is this for your SL 65, and dose it have airmatic? Are they TUV and DOT approved? Lastly my $0.02 worth I would get the carbon fiber wheels, because a SL 65 should already be fast enough.

Yeah they are for the sl65 and no it is not fast enough. The car needs about 100hp more the lbft is fine but I think the car would be great with about 700-750hp.

100 HP. Time to call your favorite tuner, cause no matter how light your rotating element is it won't net you that gain. I think $10 to 12K could get you that 100 HP, unless you get on the bottle. Do you have pics of the rims?

Get the ECU/TCU tune first. If you're not happy then try the wheels (I personally dont like the way the wheels look)

you would probably notice the difference in accelleration and braking but your money would be MUCH better spent with an ecu tune. the only time i would worry about top of the line light weight wheels is if the car was used exclusively for road racing. on the street and with such a heavy car, potholes and debris will cost you quite a bit when it comes to carbon fibre rims and their maintentance...there's no "repairing" those babies.

4lbs of unsprung weight "feels" like an extra hp. rotating mass ie flywheel or driveshaft is a little different.

To get 100hp more out of the 65 without upping torque - you have to get it to rev better.

Need some head work (a la bleek) and headers. Even this may not be enuf for 100hp ... but should help ... Oversize the turbo's & intercooler and you should be there ...

I doubt you will even feel the difference of carbon wheels on a 65 - unless you stick it on a track.

The thing with headers is that the turbos are part of the header from what I hear so that would be a big job. I heard something about the "hot side" of the turbos and the headers not sure what that means. I would like more hp and not to worried about the lbft. I know brabus says the add big turbos etc and get about 730hp (ie rocket) but at 30k I dont think it is worth it.
