20" Renntechs: What Does It Change?
If you put on the 20" Renntech monolite wheels, what should you expect in terms of ride/acceleration/handling.
I think the Renntechs are superior aesthetically to the OEM wheels, but I don't want to give up ride comfort and acceleration for them.
Please share your opinions. And, forgive me if I am asking fundamental questions that most of you already know. I have been driving a Z06 for the last 6 months and I don't know much about the E63 I am getting. That's why I have you.
Your perspectives will be appreciated.

19" is the max that I would go. Even 19s is a bit much for me some times, esp driving in my garage. If you bought 20s, I dunno how long they will last and the ride would be too rough as if you were riding on rubber bands.

I appreciate your honesty. Sometimes aesthetics and popular opinion sway you towards decisions that are less than ideal.

I think the weight and handling issue should not be a major problem because the monolites are forged and even at 20 should weigh about the same as stock 18.

The Renntech monolite wheels is the "cheapest" strong wheel out there in the market currently and so far none of my clients have complaints regarding the ride quality.

With 20's in general your increase in rotational mass and inertia will have some adverse effects generally with braking and acceleration. These effects can be minimized with the reduction in wheel weight and this is where the monolites shine. It all depends on how much lighter the wheel is versus the diameter increase.
As for comfort, the ride will be more painful as the rubber decreases (aspect ratio). Its worth it to me though. I have 20's on my 65 and 19's on my 55, both HRE's, and I would not ever go back to stock.

On an E55 the max I'd go is a 19. They look terrific and you make a good compromise between ride comfort and looks. I'm surprised no one has referenced straight line performance though. Less rubber=less traction due to less sidewall flex. That's why the top fuel dragsters have such small wheels and huge tires.

I had 20's on the car and I went back to the stock wheels because the ride sucked. You can look cool or you can have a nice ride but not both.
Anyone who has 20's and says the ride is the same has convinced themselves that its true because they love the way the 20's look.

You could go with 19" and look "cool" and not sacrifice much ride quality.

Finally was able to drive my car with the new 19" HRE's. Ride is a little firmer but not a lot different than stock and S2...that said I keep it in C now . The car is lowered with a RT module and on heavily worn, crowned roads the handling is affected. Not bad and not due to the wheels as much as the lowering.I usually raise it up when the roads are crap. Looks awsum though.
