it depends on the use - as a dd no - as a weekend car yes
but if speed is what you need then no- the R8 in a recent test against the 997 TT only traps 110 - if I were you I would wait for the V-10 engine - the hardest part is being patient

And they are on the right track, it's all about the LHV.

Not sure if that baby is all wheel drive but if it is I would strongly recommed against it. After my experience with a high hp modified rs4 and driving an rs6 the fun is just not there. You will miss your torque monster imo.

That R8 is a beaut. I have yet to see one in real life, but they photograph beautifully.
What are you having to pay? Do you own your E55 outright and intend to trade it in with cash for the Audi? How much are you going to have to pay on top of the car?
I like the idea of getting into the R8 now, as it is so new looking that it'll seem fresh and modern for a long time, like the TT which still looks like a modern car despite having been around for a while.
Let us know what it'll cost, though. All decisions like this come down to $ for me... If $ were no object, I'd be in something far more insane than my E55, an R8, a 997TT, or anything else I can dream of owning

I saw one in person at the Dallas Auto Show. It was absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure it'll be a different drive, but heaps of fun! High revving, picking up lots of speed along with the revs. Much faster than a normal Carrera/Carrera S, but not 911 Turbo. Seen a couple of V8 Vantages around, gorgeous cars. Consider one of those as well, they're definitely worth a look/drive.

As far as my twin E55 from new york, im in queens, email me NOEZWA0UT55@AOL.COM, as far as trading in my E55 for the R8 im considering it, ive owned alot of cars ranging from ///M5's,supra,300zx,grand national, ford lightning,Infinity Q45,and a 996 turbo, but nothing looks like the audi R8 for the money, car is bangin like a slow jam. lol and im sure wheels tint a sick sounding exhaust would make it that much better.

I'd be surprised if you could get in line now and get an R8 this year.
Rumor is they will ship something in the range of 225 cars to the US and it would be a reasonable bet to expect the allocation to be assigned to customers already.
This is pure conjecture on my part, go to an Audi dealer and find out if they're getting one that you might buy.

Its beautiful in person, a real show-stopper. I saw it in an Audi showroom in Manhattan (I think it was Park Ave). Its really sick and I think its one of the most exotic looking new cars out there, very unique. I don't know about its performance though...but judging on looks alone I don't think you can go wrong. How much do they cost and what are the engine specs and performance #'s?

Even an EVOMS s/c'ed C4S has more appeal than the R8 for me...... but I agree with you that the TT is mighty sweet (I like the subtlety of the turbo compared to say a Gallardo or F430 that are right at your face).
