Updated Nav DVD Doesn't Work in 04 E55?
I've had an 03 version in there and it still works fine when re-inserted. Can you guys think of any reason why it wouldn't load the new one (screen says no DVD, insert nav DVD in trunk)?
I appreciate any help you can offer.

When you say updated, what is the new version you are trying to use ?
If you are going from a 2003.x disc to a 2006,x it won't take that leap.
You need to insert/update with an 2005.x disc first, then to the newer one.
Once you update to a new disc, the old version will no longer work.

I have the 2006.1 DVD, but I think the 2006.2 disk is out now. Which one do you have? The 2006.1 works fine for me. I am assuming your DVD is new, but I would still suggest cleaning it. You can search for how to clean DVD's on google.
Here is what I read: If dust particles are sticking to the CD surface, use a piece of soft cloth to wipe off the dust. To hold the CD, insert a finger or thumb inside the center hole of the CD or handle it by the edges but never touch the shiny surface. Always wipe the disc surface in a non-radial back-and-forth motion (from the center hole to the outer edge). Don't follow the concentric circles while cleaning.
Sometimes small dust particles can cause a problem, however this is RARE. Even if you can't see anything on the DVD, still do what I said above, I have had a similar thing with a new DVD, after wiping it, it worked. If that doesn't work, just take it in to a stealership and see if it works in another E-class. If not, exchange it for a new one.

Silly question, but you ARE inserting it in the DVD reader in the trunk right? Reason I ask is my neighbor was trying to feed it to his CD player ...

and the dealer probably has one laying around that he can use just to bridge the gap.

Thanks for the input, fellas. My original is 2003.? and I guess it may have been 2006.2 I was going to. I didn't keep the disc 'cause I was still at the dealer when I tried to get it to work so I don't have it to reference for the exact version of the 06 it was. The disc was $275 plus tax. Should I try to find an 05 version cheap on the net?

Out Of Control!!
Does anyone know if there are any significant operating updates from a 2005 version to the latest version, or does the update only provide newer map info? Thanks.

Just a follow up to update this for any folks who may have the same issue...the dealer had an 05 disc and I asked them to put it in first and then let me buy the latest version. They tried this while it was in for service but told me upon pick up that it didn't work and that they had to replace the nav unit. The screen itself wasn't swapped as it was still the same old dusty screen. I guess maybe they replaced the portion of the system that loads the disc in the trunk. Thanks for all of the input on this issue, fellas.

2003 E55
Cool. This is the first I've heard of this thread. I went from a 2003.1 to a 2006.1. There were many fits and starts but it eventually worked. Since things change here so quickly in the San Francisco Bay area I'm hoping to get a 2007 when available.

P.S. I do realize this DVD will not work in the car. Still outright theft....

I purchased it back in 06 when the update first came out. And be careful with those Ebay versions. They are possibly copies. You are correct that MB charges that much but they can do that.
