Do any of you guys with the 06's get the chirping noise, or just the hesitation/surge when the S/C engages. I've got an '03 that's getting a new S/C this week and I was hoping that rids me of the dreaded "chirp".
Thanks
Thanks

I have an '03 E55 with a little warranty left. I took my car in for service and told the SR that the clutch chirped on engagement (He stated that was normal.) and that the car "jerked violently" when the clutch engaged. He said that was not normal. I also told him that after a few repeated full throttle runs I felt like I was loosing power.
He called later that day and said he spoke to the service manager and they were installing the updated clutch pack and a new I/C pump and that should fix my complaints.
I got the car back and the chirp was gone and it ran smooth as silk and the power delivery was awesome.
So yes, they will do it to older cars. I just think you have to know what to say. A "chirp" does not warrant a new clutch pack. A "rough engagement" does. I believe I need to give "Jangy" credit in my learning what to say. Thanks.

Did you really have a rough engagement? If my guy can't duplicate the problem, he doesn't do anything. I did mention loss of power and got a new pump.

It is drastic, indeed. If you are a tester, try taking off the SC belt and see what you get. My guess would be nearly a 50% reduction in power. It is a 5.5liter V8, but it is low compression (without SC) and has the SC screw sitting there impeding the airflow.

I've been driving around for the last 2 weeks with no S/C, as I'm waiting for the new one to come in.
I've not driven one, but I would imagine its comparable to an E320. The strange thing is, that is still has a lot of low end grunt, but if you floor it, you can't spin the tires and it seems like less acceleration than if you just lean into it quickly. I had a C240 loaner for a few days, but the E55 sans S/C still blows that thing off the road. I called my SA and requested to drive mine 'til the parts came in.
I tried to check the top end on the highway today, but without the acceleration, I only had room to hit low 130's. It felt like it probably could still see the 155 limiter if I had enough room to get there. It is a completely different feeling than when the IC pump went out. A lot more power on the highway than when that goes out.

Here is the wording from my work order: "Client states intermittently during hard driving(Heavy Accel) engine seems to lose power. Circulation pump failing.??" Service tech response: "Coolant circulation pump faulty short test, no fault codes stored. Perform activations, coolant circulation pump is sticking at times. It will not come on, but 12 volts power and ground present. Tapping pump makes it start running. Drain coolant and replaced circulation pump. Retest, pump is operating correctly." I told my SR that I frequent this sight and that my understanding is that there is an updated I/C pump and I gave him the part # 000-500-03-86 and I told him that this sight said there was an updated clutch pack. They never questioned it and just checked it out. Luckily, they replaced both. They found the info I gave was all correct. Again, all hail "Jangy."
