Racing question-best way to launch
I have a date set to race an aquaintence in his 07 ZO6. Both cars are stock, except for my exhaust. I don't have much car racing under my belt, and have not had the opportunity to find the RPM sweet spot in my 63. I figured we would just do a roll on, do the three honk thing, and go from there.
I guess my question is, do I go with the paddles or just stay in auto mode, let it do it's thing and hang on? It will be a straight run until some one lets off. I don't care who wins. Actually I do. I mostly just want to open it up and listen to my Eiesman clear it's throat.
I will try and set up my video camera to catch it, because I sure as hell am not going to try and do it manually while I am driving.

If its on a roll you would want to leave the car in S but manually downshift to keep the car in a lower gear and higher RPMs. Hammer it and let it shift itself. We need videos of this! Good luck trying to beat the Z06 lol.

Your only hope is to go from a dead stop. The best thing to do would be to let the tranny do the shifting and quickly roll into the throttle with ESP off, suspension in comfort mode, for quickest weight transfer. Good luck.

The guy I am going to race is about sixty years old, so I think he will get cold feet before I do.
I don't anticipate winning, but who cares. Your hauling ***, WOT, going fast and listening to the exhaust. What's not to like. It's such a rush going through the process any way. I'm cool with that. Besides, like the saying goes, "There is always a faster gun".
Now I don't know where to put the camera. If I was positive I was going to get my *** kicked, I would know where to put it. I guess I will just mount it to the passenger head rest.
If this goes through, I will have it on disc and ya all can tell me how to post it.

Agreed, your only hope would be if he cooks the tires off the line. Make sure it's a dead stop race for your only chance.
From a roll, it's gonna be The Grindhouse Part 2.

I played w/ one from a roll in my E60 M5... and in the M5's sweet spot too, of a roll starting around 70. We ran up to maybe 130 or 140. He pulled me pretty hard. (This is all kmh of course)

The Z06 will win, I know. But I respect your approach to the race.
Put your car in S mode, comfort setting, put it in manual at 2nd gear around 40-50mph, ESP off because you're alreay rolling, and let the tranny shift for you. Get the pedal down and smash the kick down as fast as possible. Watch for potential fish tailing as it is unsafe and waste your line.
One trick you may want to do before meeting him is heat up your tires a few times, meet him and run immediately when your tires are still warmed up.
And be safe.

I would recommend from a dead stop...this increases the Zo6's chance of bogging at the line or excessive wheel spin. Going f from a 5mph roll he will slaughter you. (Doesn't matter what stage aftermarket kit you have installed on your car.Saw a bone stock Z06 run 11.4 @ 129 at Englishtown two weeks ago) Just make sure you are in 'S' mode and in 1st gear. The car does not start in 1st gear in 'S' mode unless you have already driven the car above ..say..4,000rpm. I drive the car with the oil temp monitor showing in the dash display..it also displays what gear you are in just above that.
Anyway just have fun and post that video ASAP!!

Well, lets look at the facts. The quickest modded E55 (without nitrous) that I've ever heard of ran the 1/4 mile just around 11.3
The quickest stock Z06 that I've ever heard of ran a 10.9 on the 1/4 mile.
I think that the .4 second difference is enough to state that the Z06 is the quicker car. And yes, of course 1/4 mile times are not everything. Trap speed counts more (I forgot what the trap speed of the Z06 was) on a real race and there are plenty of variables but I do believe that if you took two very good drivers and pitted them against eachother in a Z06 vs modded E55k, the Z06 would come out on top.

I beat couple of times stock C6 Z06 is 1/4 mile and till about 145-150
As for good drivers...we also did rolling starts at approx 30 and I still beat him till 140...the he catch up pass me and hit the limit at something like 300km and them I slowly pass him

Wow, then I guess my speculation was off, modded E55s are still the true "beasts" lol. Impressive, I'd love to see your car run, it must be a real monster. Oh well, I guess videos will have to suffice.
