Adverse effects with charcoal filter removal??
Just came home and my wife informed em that the check engine light was on...sure thing it was. I didn't do anything different iother than remove the charcoal filters about 2 weeks ago. For those who removed them, Has there been any problem?? If not looks I got the dreded "check engine" light. Car has about 2500 miles, so it really shouldn't ve having this sort of an issue. Any ideas from the pro's???

Walt, have you brought in your car yet for the first service recommended by MB for under 2k mileage. I was getting some warnings about low oil level and check at next refueling around 1600 miles. If you have 2500 miles on the car and havent had it serviced yet it may be an automatic triggering from the computer to tell you to take the thing to be serviced. I hope it is not the charcoal filter, being that mine are in a ziploc bag in my garage.

I don't remeber what it turned out to be, but it was not serious. I think the only issue was that whatever was burning out kept doing it or something. I am almost sure it was emissions related
, so I would at least put the filters back in before I took it in.

Thanks for the reply......I will put the filters back in and have it checked out....question..could it be bad gas?? It started with the check engine light about a day after I filled it up!! Eitherway...it will go back and have it checked out!

Had the check engine light as well. Brought it in and it coded as a back ordered emissions sensor. Waited for 2 months and it is finally now in. I get it repplaced on Monday. Light came on 3 times and then that was it. Car has been strong and has had no hiccups or anything. Not sure what the whole sensor deal is or if it was faulty wiring. Will have them replace it non-the-less since it is under warranty. Will let you know what they say. I am also wondering if I should replace my filters before taking it in. Do you think they will be looking there? What do you guys think? Car definitely feels better w/ filters out.

Unreal..........I am on the road on business and wife called saying the sensor light went off.....I still say it might be some bad gas because all I did was to put a bottle of Techron in....and that was it....but then again...it might come on again.....QUESTION.....if a sensor came on...would it trigger a fault code that could be picked up later with the code readers??? Maybe someone in the know can help with that..!!

The CEL went away....I am thinkign bad gas or something....I added a bottle of Techrol....drove it a few days...CEL gone....still taking it to the dealership to have the recall done, and to have the ECU reflash for the transmission starting in first.

Just a thought, if you don't close the gas cap tightly the check engine light will come on and stay on for a few days. That's emission related too. But I haven't had any issues with the filter removal and I've had mine out the longest.

There should be no adverse effects from the removal of the charcoal filters, and no check engine lights. I believe they were added to US cars to aid in emissions on cold startups right gents?

buckeyewalt,
Let me know what the dealer tells you on the update. My dealer told me last week thats the way it should be. They even called MB USA and said my car is up to date.
