No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, GLE 400d, R107 280SL, Golf Polo
I got TPMS on my '06 euro spec...
Also have clam shell centre console - but also have rear Tv mbe thats why.

OEM optioned Rear TV is waste of time BTW it obstructs access to rear cabin too much and rattles like a skeleton - better to get an after market twin headrest version.

Steve MBenzNL can install TPMS if you don't have it. It's not cheap. You need receivers in each wheel well, as well as the rim sensors.

Not sure how much either cost, but I know they are both retro-fittable (if that is a word?)

I once got a quote from Steve...

$1.5K for rear sunshade (parts & labor)

$3K for distronic (parts & labor) provided that Steve could get proper codestring (no clue what codestrings are ). He said MB moved some codestrings from offline to online... so it was harder for him to get.

i had no idea the 05-06s had better suspensions than the 03s, kind of upsetting. Anyone drive both, can you tell the difference?

Nanopaint came out in 2004, but was available on Model year 2005 and up.

Brakes were the same until E63.

Only because it's a euro model. No TPMS on the US '06's.

i test drove a 2004 E55 and 2005 before buying the 05. The 05 did feel better slightly (tighter if you will). The suspension explains that now!

The rest feature was taken out, but the hepa filter remains. The difference is that it is always going now.

Um some other things i did not see
some old models came with 80tb (not sure if this was SL55 only)
blow off valve was changed no?
also the HE did not have the oil cooler at the front in the old models.

so yes there are a few changes.
Not sure if the AMGs had the brake by wire thing, if they did that got changed to

Just updating the summary of differences.....

2003 and 2004 E55 Models:
  • All 2003 models have NO NAVIGATION except for Presidential Series.
  • All 2003 models have NO Spare Tire.
  • The AC "Rest" feature left after the 2004 - 2005 transition.
  • 2004+ E55s equipped with 'always ready' transmission buttons at the steering wheel. On the 03s, you have to press the transmission M/S/C button before the steering wheel buttons work ????
  • 2004+ had the "smart" lighting system (head lights turn as the car turns).
  • TPMS was an orderable option.
2005 and 2006 E55 Models have the following changes:
  • If equipped with pano roof option, 2005 and 2006 have no solar panel.
  • 200 mph speed gauge as opposed to 160 mph.
  • Better suspension parts, mostly from CLS.
  • Better steering rack, also from CLS.
  • Slightly different supercharger clutch for smoother engagement.
  • Slightly different IC pump (this one I'm not sure about? ) .
  • Aluminum Paddles.
  • Sliding Center Console.
  • TPMS cannot be ordered as an option anymore.
  • Mercedes started using nano-ceramic paint technology.

Some, if not many of the '03s have nano paint. Mine does. Strangely, my 04does not...????

Also, it is VERY easy to add COMAND/NAV to an '03. Most of the non-early cars are prewired, and SAT works fine too.

Also, I believe it was an activated charcoal filter button (stink button) that was removed from the later models, not a HEPA button.

There's always one FREAK car once and I while. I was really reffering to most of the time. I know when Mercedes decide to come out with the E55 in the w211 car, they really wanted to raise the bar over the old M5 by alot. At that time the M5 was running a 13.3 second quarter on a good day and Mercedes was able to shave a full second off that time. They made sure that the 03 w211 cars performance was impressive to make a point to BMW that they were going for performance at Mercedes in the future.
