Re: supercharger squeal
I remember reading a post a while back regarding a squealing noise heard when taking off, so after that, i've been noticing that I had that problem also. So, I recently took my 55 to the dealer to see what they say about it, and, what do you know the technician also heard it and said they would take care of it. I left my car overnight and they had it fixed for me the next day. They replaced the Compressor Pulley. Part# SPO 113 090 00 44. The tech wrote "Road test and inspect, found noise coming from clutch pulley on supercharger. Replaced and shimmed supercharger belt pulley. Retest OK." While there, they did scheduled service and also found that my battery was faulted, so they replaced that as well. Gotta love that warranty.
If it wasn't for the great information on this board guys, I probably would have never paid attention to the sound and kept on smashing on people.

That squeal may come back. I had it in my 04 SL55. First MB said it was normal for a supercharged car. It took a while but AMG found a fix and the dealer did it twice. It was coming back a little after the second fix when I sold the car but it was subdued. I was told that it could come back no matter what they did. With the top down it was really annoying and anyone standing near the car could hear the chirp when accelerating from a rest. I'd like to know if others have the squeal, chirp on later models. I've heard it on every AMG model with that engine.
Good luck and regards.

Ditto here to x-tian-230k, I got the updated clutch pack and the chirp is gone. My dealer would not replace the clutch due to the chirp. They said that was characteristic of the supercharger clutch. However, when I told them about the "rough engagement" they replaced it with no problem.

mine doesn't make any sound.
it does that churk when trying to shift between 1st and 2nd, but it depends on how i press the pedal.
because sometimes it doesn't happen.

Chirp
My 04 is doing it as well. Car even has a slip right before shifting to 2nd. Kind of feels like the car has the hick ups. Really pissing me off. Had a Benz tech drive it and he said it's normal. I feel it can be fixed. Drove 2 other e55 and never felt this. Plus my buddys 04 s55 doesn't do it.

Total, $2000. That is why I am trying to find them cheaper. Have emailed Mister Brendon with no response.
