That is nuts then. MB should know better than to make a car require gas few people can find. As we go towards 91 oct across the country to help the environment and create less of a gas segmentation (for supply) the will not be any more 93 one day.
If it is indeed made for 93 there should be some power left in the cars on 91 oct. Someone could go dyno the cars on the two grades of gas and let us know. Trouble is you would have to really run low on 91 oct before getting the car back filled with 93 oct for the next test.
Thanks Juicee.

On the East coast, at least around here, you can't find 91, only 92-94. Where did you get that info about the U.S. going towards 91 pls? The West coast has always been different. The difference to the environment (between 91 & 93) is essentially non-existant and our really powerful cars are what's not friendly especially under full throttle. I don't think this is the place for that. Anyway I'm really interested in knowing where that info is from (no more 93).
Thx.

So you obviously use 93?
This sucks , how can I afford 6.99 per gallon. Is the 91 here the same as the 93 on the East Coast?
How can MB sell a 93 car in a State with no 93? If I dyno at 440 with the 100 octane I am going to be happy yet , kinda pissed as well.

I think you guys are getting worked up over nothing here.MB is not going to put a car in a market where there is no acess to the required octane fuel.It will run just fine on 91,you can even put cheap 87 in it and it will still run.Maybe not at its full potential but still run.
Juicee, dont waste your money on the race gas.

I agree that everyone is getting worked up over a non-factor.
First off, nice ride. I like the rims. I do wonder on their weight. I also like the ECU tune as well, since raising the limiter is my main desire.
I ran 100octane on a stock ecu and car (E55) at Willows and it did make a difference. Is it worth $6/gallon? I dunno, and it could have even been a placebo effect, but I was turning better laps and macking on the ZO6 after the refill. Before that, I just had 91 octane from Cevron, so go figure.

No it must be a mistake as MB makes all cars 91 oct ready. The usa has plans to make all states use 91 oct as its premium level fuel soon so MB would not bring a car tuned only for 93 (98 RON) fuel. If so the car is fine on 91 oct and 93 could be better.
These cars have pretty advanced fuel mapping so it will likely run fine on either of the fuels. Higher is always better but MB cant expect you to run a mix of 100 and 91 to make the car work properly.
I dont have an E63 so I cant comment about what my car says. I am sure other forum members can comment however.
All I can think is that MAYBE the car should have 98 RON fuel if you plan to use the 186 raised speed limiter setting for an extended period of time. Clearly the tire pressures are adjusted for the added speed on the flap and maybe the fuel is along the same line of reasoning.

From what I know such is true, otherwise the E63's running around LA would have issues. I know Mercedes to tune for less than 91 octane fuel to ensure cars are rich from the factory. They do this because 91 is the only fuel available in California and a few other states, and they prefer air/fuel ratios to be more on the rich side. This is why simply tuning for 93 gains power.
MB makes high and low compression versions for their international market. we had a few in Somalia and ended up ordering a high compression one in hopes of gaining performance but ended up getting screwed, since the gas there sucked!! All the poor car did was ping and ping.

Running rich is safer on the car, too. All the more reason NOT to tune the ECU with just a pulley. The car is ready for more air as is.
