Headers wrapping with Thermo-Tec...

Has anyone done that on 55 motors and does it help with the heat soak ???

I am thinking of wrapping my headers but they are jet-hot coated already...Is there any point of doing this ???

If they are coated, I wouldn't wrap them. Wrapping increases corrosion and will shorten your header life.

Ditto!

Misha, do not waste your time on minor stuff.

HP is airflow. Look into parts that let the engine breathe.

header wrap does not allow metal to dissipate heat properly. while certain types of ss pipes may resist the problem better than other metals, welds may not. on two personal projects i've witnessed a process i was told was called hydrogen embrittlement of the wrapped metal. it looks like the metal has rusted through...even though it's never been wet (this is the reason many people mistakenly think wrap and moisture are the detrimental combination). lets just say i've ruined a very expensive turbo and an expensive set of custom made ss headers for 600+ hp chevy smallblock...yes i'm a slow learner and it took me a second time to learn my lesson.

ymmv and i'm no expert. i'm not saying it will happen to every application, just that it could...and when we're discussing $3k for headers, why take the chance, especially when the benefits are so insignificant that it could never offset the risk.

If you bought the dark stuff, you could always wrap the intake tubes. Some say theres a benefit to it,keeping heat soak out of the tubes and some say it just looks good.
