Stalking the E63...

Hello All,

I am in serious pursuit of either a brand new E63 (to lease) or a low miles 2007 that I would make a thorough background check on.

Since I know that I will be a daily viewer/contributor to this forum, I would like to say hi and ask some important questions.

1. I want to eventually own this car and drive it for at least 5-7 years. (or at least until my appetite overwhelms me). What is better.. a brand new lease (with intent to purchase by residual) or a low mile 2007 with depreciation already taken?

2. Can this car be tuned after market for more performance, etc.. Any links?

3. How is the resale value anticipated for this car and how has itbeen for the E55?

4. I have always been a BMW guy because of the feel the bimmer gives the driver. Has anyone driven the new M5 (SMG only because manual doesnt allow for DSC off and the gearbox is old)? How does the M5 SMG compare to the E63?
The BMW service plan is nice and was difficult to get around.

I want the E63 so bad I can taste it. I look forward to reading and participating in this forum daily, for years to come.

Regards, Ray

The SMGIII trans would give you much more of a connected feel although the E63 is more similiar than the 55 as it has a 7-speed transmission. Resale value on these cars is a joke other than that, I love em!

Resale and SMG

From what I have read....the resale value on the AMG cars, especially the E is quite good as far as the parachute like depreciation they have after driving off the lot.

Hasnt BMW had way too many Transmission issue on the SMG? and even in the most comfortable settings..isnt it still quite jerky?

Is there anyone here that would recommend the SMG M5 over the E63?

To me, I want the luxury of the E63 with its magnificent performance and more civil drive.

The lease deals are getting really nice. If ou lease a brand new 63 you could decide after some serious seat time if you like it or not. You could always buy yours or simply pick up another brand new one. The mods are few and far between.

1. Filter removal, 5 minutes, 0-18 hp gains have been noted
2. Air filters
3. Exhaust
4. Headers
5.Intakes

If your looking to mod the E55 is the way to go, E63 is great and just as you describe.

You could do really well buying one slightly used as well, search the classifieds here, some are selling fairly cheap.

Car also is bette after a few thousand miles, smoother tranny, more power.

You read wrong. All AMG's drop like a brick, especially when a new model is replacing an older design, like the E55.Guys are getting low ball #'s in the low to mid $40's for a 2yr old E55.Thats a 50% hit in value.

If you'd like I'll sell you my E63 so I can buy a clean E55

Why would want to sell your E63 for a clean E55? What am I missing? What kind of price on the 63 and miles?

Alot of people who have driven both prefer the earth-bending torque of the E55, not to mention how easy it is to extract 50-100 more bolt-on horsepower.

The 722.9 tranny in the E63 is already near its limit with the stock N/A 6.2 liter motor.

The 722.6 in the E55 can handle over 740 lb-ft of torque +.

Baron: Lease the car for 39 mos. and see how you like it. There is a lease special right now. With very low money factor, which essentially a free money. After the lease you can buy it or go on to the next model.

Can this car be tuned after market for more performance, etc.. Any links?
Current aftermarket for 63s is limited to Renntech and Kleemann. I am working on a line of power packages. I will make an annoncement very shortly with details. In the end, with bolt-ons, expect 50-60HP. After that, some sort of forced induction will be needed.

I considered an SMG M6 before I leased my 63 and I am soooo glad I did not go with the M6. If it is a daily driver the M6 will punish you. The car just cannot be driven smoothly. Plus you get the benefits of a 4-door sedan...which was important to me. You also get more head room..I'm tall. As far as performance, I must have gotten a strong one from the factory as I am getting good #'s from the track..and I am completely stock.
