Problem with my E55

Hi guys.

I've been having a problem with my E55 (2003) that 3 local dealers here can't figure out. Normally, my car is fine, but when I try to accelerate hard, it just loses power like it's missing a supercharger. I've had this problem before, and it got fixed with a new water pump, but this time, the dealer states that there is nothing wrong with my car. Everytime I explain this to the service center, they look at me as if I'm crazy. Can anyone help? Thanks

HKoh

Did you have the intercooler pump or the engine water pump replaced last time?

How long has it been since you had it replaced?

The most common thing that causes this symptom is the failure of the intercooler circulation pump, it does leave a fault code when it faults but alot of dealers mis-interpret the fault code so they rarely diagnose it correctly.

If it has full power when it's cold outside, cold engine or after cruising for a while then it's most likely the intercooler pump.

I agree with the above. Intercooler pump needs replacing. The effect is like running a normal 5.5 without a supercharger. I noticed this more at the engine temp increased and the SC would shut itself off. When you start the car from cold and drive off does the car run as normal?

if the pump is failing intermittantly it may NOT store a fault code. this causes many dealers to miss the problem. data logging can help prove to the dealer what the problem is but most dealers should know by now since the failures are epidemic.

ic pump, common on the c32's and an easy fix. very sad that 3 dealerships can't figure something that simple out.

Thought my tech told me there is even an "alert" or something to techs about IC pumps. Just can't believe this is still an issue at dealers.

Classic IC pump symptoms.

I don't understand the big problem with techs not realising the problem either, it's been around long enough.

I've seen enough techs doing coolant changes on 32, 55 and bi turbo V12's and I always ask.....did you bleed the intercooler? Amazing how many tech's don't do it or even realise that they need to do it!

When it happened to me. It didn't even run like a normal E500 or 550. It was more like an E190 (as if it existed). It is very frustrating. Once they do the fix, it's MUCH better.

Thanks for the replies. I will check it out with my dealer on Monday. Since it was fine in the winter, I'm figuring that it does have something to do with the outside tempurature. Also, if it is the IC pump, does it cost a lot to have it replaced?

it should be covered under warranty. if your warranty is expired get an aftermarket pump...like a johnson marine.

I just noticed a problem like that with mine as well.

From a standing start, pedal pushed all the way to the floor it seems defo to be down on power. Before it used to screech like mad, ESP light on etc etc, but now it accelerates slowly up to and passed 40, where it goes sloghtly back to being an E55. when your up the rev range its no problem, it flies.

What is this problem?

I just got it B serviced as well!!
