Is this guy nuts?

So I'm an M5board regular (first post on MBWorld) and saw this post the other day. This guy wants to talk to me about doing a trade. Seems like a great deal for me, bad deal for him. Which is why its really fishy... wanted to see what you MB guys thought.

I think that car is near my place.... the person also posted an ad here.... I think he is willing to go down under 40. Not sure why....

If you are really interested in it, I may be able to help you look at the car.

no hes not nuts.. That is the wholesale market for a +50k miles, no warranty E55 right now... The HUGE negative with that car is, no lighting package..

I am SERIOUSLY in the market for an E55, and was very interested in this car. But I need factory lighting package, in order to consider this..

Clean, car... I ran carfax, come sup clean as well... Helluva deal.....

Interesting, but I would need to figure in the cost of the warranty

Does anyone have a guess on the approximate cost of an aftermarket warranty for this?

I bought a Starmark warranty for my ML 430 for about $1200. I'm guessing this would be alot more.

Be careful. I spoke with this guy on the phone and didn't feel comfortable. Just a gut feeling but he's talking about not yanking his chain and giving him a deposit before he'd let you drive the E55. Gotta be a reason why the price is so low and it's been on the market for awhile now......it's also missing a few options I'm looking for. The lighting package being a major one.

Aftermarket warranty for E55 from various quotes is between $2500-$4000. But these quotes are for mileage < 40K & the new car warranty is still current.

Not sure how it would affect the price since this one doesn't have the new car warranty anymore, assuming you could still get one.

LOL... you need to put a deposit just for a test drive WITH him on your side? Is that like a life insurance for him in case you crash the car during the test drive? LOL

Once again, if any non-local members need help to look at the car, let me know... but of course, if deposit is required, you need to pay first... LOL.

to me it is funny that he is taking pictures in front of what looks to be the silver creek country club, like hes try to play a part i could be wrong though. it wouldnt be the first time.
he probably wants a deposite before you drive to make sure your serious i would think.

To be honest, I've never heard anyone asked for a deposit for a test drive... at most, the seller holds / copies the driver license and insurance, or insists in talking about the price first.

As a buyer, I would be completely turned off if I cannot test drive the car or need to put deposit first.... just like Dragoncoach felt.

It's not the money... it's more of underlying trust... my thought: If you cannot trust me for only test driving the car - with you beside me - how can you trust me when I give you the money?

Anyway, it's OT.... just follow your instinct guys.... Hope the seller can chime in also.... it's a shame not being able to sell the car just because of deposit required prior to test drive.

I see a very nice car. Watch out owning it without a warranty. Still it is priced right. Jump on it, like lunch meat.

Asking for a deposit keeps the tire kickers and joy riders away. This will ensure that only serious buyers are driving your car.

i'm looking for a white E55, if he was on the east coast I would've been all over this, though the mileage is a bit high.

only time i ever asked for a deposit is when i was selling a bike and the deposit was the full asking price in case the buyer crashed it.

but on a car that is a bit foolish. or goto the dealership and test drive one. be sure to take it to MB for a full check to make sure the car is correct and not a POS.

it looks like ruby hill area as well from the pics.
