Just a guess here. The ESP is trying to control the power.I have been told you can still dyno the car without dyno mode if you either close the hood,or cover the hood sensors so it thinks the hood is closed.I havent tried it yet but it does come from a reliable person.
The purpose of dyno mode is for emission testing. Most software tuners will update emission map as well as other maps during tuning. So the results will be similar between two modes.

E55s can dynoed by simply closing the hood or pushing down the hood latches.

2004 E55 AMG and 2003 C320 4Matic Miss my 993 Turbo above!!
Hey Everyone......

As you know, I was not in DYNO MODE, however, the ESP was shut off during my DYNO...........

The hood was all the way open during all my pulls.....

So......Does it make a difference or not if the pull is done in DYNO MODE or NOT?? I guess we will find out as I am going to do the pull in DYNO MODE.

I am located virtually at sea level........So should the corrected and uncorrected #'s be the same??

The IC pump?? How can i verify wether it is properly working or not. I have an MB dealer just a few miles from the house and my E55 is still under warranty. Should I complain about the IC...Can they diagnose that.....

Thanks

Here's the million dollar question, how do you put the car in DYNO mode? I am going to be bringing my car for dyno testing soon to get a base line.

I think those comments have come from guys with 63's, not 55's. 63 owners believe that putting it in dyno mode makes it faster. That's not the case with the 55's.

It does make a difference. And the correction factors are not simply atltitude, but also for temperature and humidity.

Edit - Here is a thread expalining how to put the car in dyno mode:
