Outstanding!
[QUOTE=chiromikey;2331769]here are some quick pics. i won't have any time to get any data logging numbers until after the weekend but i'll share my set-up anyways.
basically a 3 stage system consisting of a new front mount heat exchanger with 72% more capacity than the oem unit, a trunk mounted reservoir to greatly increase capacity and give me the ability to add ice at the track to REALLY help cool the charge air, and what's that hidden behind the rear bumper cover you ask...why that's a second remote mounted heat exchanger with dual 6" fans for good measure. as you can see there is a second johnson cm30 pump mounted at the reservoir with it's twin brother mounted in the stock location. there is PLENTY of flow with just one cm30 on this system but i'm obviously into overkill. after seeing how much water was flowing, i really think the cm90 is too much. and of course, the i/c circuit was separated from the engine cooling circuit.
this is a test system to measure benefits and possibilities so i didn't go all out on hoses or connections. each stage of this system can be duplicated or used separately so the possibility of a "kit" is being tossed around. as i've mentioned, this system may not be the ultimate like vrus' slr system but i'm expecting it to work well.
btw, a very important criteria for me was that the heat exchangers be true bolt-ons with no cutting of bumpers or brackets so the car can EASILY be returned to stock. the only permanent mods are the holes for cooling lines to the reservoir which can be plugged if removal is necessary.
Mikey: Did Chris build the system for you? How much did it cost?
Absolutely looks great and seems to perform great too!!! I may get it too if Chris built it for you! Regards

The stock one is like the evo it is a double pass design. A single vs double pass can be argued back and forth. From my understanding by having a higher water velocity a dual pass will tend to work better. If you can increase flow then the single pass can work better.

will do and i'll report back asap.
they're pwr cores with custom end tanks, inlet/outlets, and mounting brackets.

i got out early this morning so i could get some temps near my last data logging session. ambient temp was low-mid 80's and i made 10 runs on a closed course from 30-110mph.
runs 1-2 never got iat's above 120.
runs 3-6 had iat's in the mid-high 120's.
runs 5-8 had iat's in the low to mid 130's
run 9 had iat's in high 130's
run 10 finally peaked at 140.
ZERO detonation! iat's recovered immediately after each run to within 25* of ambient (about 10* cooler than oem and MUCH quicker recovery). i think it's fair to say my i/c system is working now! my last session recorded iat's immediately getting up through the 140's and peaking into the 160's after only 2-3 runs. i'll try some runs with ice in the reservoir next weekend.

Good to hear that the recovery is much quicker, Mikey what was the "pump on temp"? And did you let the ECU control the pumps & fans or did you have them on manually?
Ice & manual pump switch = prechill entire system, killer first run.

Excellent, That is a marked improvement! 120v160. You should be proud.

...and yes the manual override switch will be put to good use in the staging lanes!

yes, chris built the system. he's considering packaging a bolt-on stage 1 cooling kit with the front mount heat exchanger and parts to separate the i/c and engine coolant so i really don't know what his price will be. lets just say that if he does, it will most likely be significantly cheaper than anything else on the market. .

Thunk the 03's had the pump on more often than later models ... will check my '06 when my stuff goes in.

he's considering putting a kit together if there's enough interest. anyone that might be interested please pm me so that i can prove to him there IS enough interest for him to do this. more people willing to build stuff for us will push all manufacturers to offer better products at better prices! if there's enough interest i'd bet i could even persuade him into getting with mbworld to set up a future group buy (probably at half the price of anything elso on the market!!!) so let me know asap!

E55 (for sale if the right offer comes along)...too many others to list
Mikey I leave for a while and you are cooking up your own mods again. Way to go buddy.

Mike:
Very nice job. The work looks first rate. Can you feel the difference in our blazing heat? I know my SL55 is down on power in the summer.

i do feel a difference. now the car doesn't feel like it's missing 100hp because of our summer heat nor does power tend to drop off after a run or two. however, i have no faith in "butt dynos" so i'll get some real proof when the weather gets closer to my last dyno run. the datalogging comparisons are promising so i do expect to show some hp gains.

looks amazing
Maybe I could get one to switch out the additional heat exchanger I have from renntech. That thing looks like its much more robust than the stock heat exchangers on the 55k's.
