E63 Gearing Change And Quaiffe Posi
Has anyone given consideration to going to a 3.07 gearing and a Quaiffe posi to waken up the low end on these cars? I don't think you'll lose enough top end speed to worry about. E500 wagons use this gearing and I think they have the same basic size differential. My only concern would be if you can program the trans to this new gearing, speedo calibration, etc. Comments Please.

Great idea! Only problem is the tranny TCU needs to be reflashed for the 3.07 gears and I am not even sure that program is available with the 7 speeds. Wonder if you could swipe the E500's TCU??
If you don't reflash TCU, car notices the gear change and will go into "limp mode". Be outta luck at that point, til reflash of course.

I think this is a fabulous idea ... and what I would do if I got a E63 ... the gearing on those cars is waaay to long in my opinion...
Mbe some MB tech can cime in on the software side ... if it can be done for 2.82's in an E55 it can be done for a 3.07 in an E63...
Edit: With 3.07's you might trip some torque limiter in first mbe - and tranny integrity may need to be revisitied here, but I think you will make the car a monster 100-200mph ... rather than 0-100 (which will be better but not as much I think).
Makes me kinda want an E63 now ...
