electric windows do not close.

The electric windows do not close when I hold down the lock on the key fob, any ideas? The car locks but nothing happens.

are the windows supposed to close when you hold down the button on the key?

Mine dont - i was slightly disappointed when i found that they didn't, because both my previous BMWs did that (pulled up the windows, closed the sunroof, and folded in the mirrors).

The opposite would happen if you held the "open" button on the key. Very cool stuff... but im not sure if our cars a supposed to....

maybe someone else will chime in...

I had to run out to my car to test this.

Try aiming the key at the car (i aimed at the driver side door).

It seems as though locking/unlocking the car is done via RF, but operating the windows/sunroof is done via IR, and line of sight is needed.

When holding the lock button, the windows and sunroof are closed.

When holding the unlock button, all the windows drop. (no sunroof action).

If line of sight is broken during the procedure, it is interrupted, and you need to press and hold the button again.

Hope this helps

FYI, also discussed in the owner's manual on page 239. The Keyless Go transmitter must be pointed at the driver's door and very close to it.

Yes and isn't mercedes a little for making this feature so you have to point it at the driver door handle and be fairly close... almost makes it useless

If you hold the open button, you trigger "summer mode", this opens all the windows, sunroof, A/C is turned on to max and lastly the ventilated seats are turned on!!!!........cool!!!!
You can also use this feature without the key if you have keyless....using the buttons on the door handles.

The buttons are actually the inside of the door handles that open the car when the Keyless Go transmtter is in your pocket>

oh, those buttons, heh, im an idiot.

I just tested this. Holding the button inside the door handle drops all four windows about 1/3 of the way and open the sunroof a little. A nice touch is that it also activated the drivers ventilated seat.

The problem is i can't get it to work consistently. Sometimes it activated this "summer mode" with the windows and ventilation, but most of the time it just pops the door open.

I guess i looked like an idiot in the parking lot opening and closing my door over and over. Any ideas to make this work consistenly? Could i be doing something wrong?

On the bright side, closing the windows/sunroof with the button on the door handle works every time.
