2005 E55, Renntech Pulley, ECU
Slightly off-topic: S600 or CLS55?

Still fixating on my next car... The 05 E55 is PERFECT these days, just feels unreal and always puts a big smile on my face (Renntech Stage I, Sprintbooster, PS2's front and rear).

Given how much power and punch the E provides, and how in love I am with the CLS looks, it seems like a match made in heaven.

But then I see prices on 2005 S600's. And I notice the INSANE power gains through a simple ECU reprogram. Ebay has an 05 S600 with FIVE THOUSAND MILES for a bit over $70k. Same as I'm finding CLS55z with 15k miles and up!

Given that the S600 was a good $40-$50k more new, and the V12tt puts insane power down with minor mods, I'm VERY tempted.

Downside is the looks (a bit staid, already outdated) and I'm guessing handling and braking. Pluses: maybe status (though the old body doesn't help), MEGA power, huge comfort and cavernous space.

Anyone here gone E55 to S600 or S600 to E55? Impressions?

Thanks!

Skeeter

I drive a W211 E55 and there are two S600 TT in the family... the S600 is a nice car, but the inside already feels a bit dated with a w211... The power is just silly though, but much more tame and smooth Vs. E55. Stock I'd still choose the E55, especially if you're into an immediate punch. The E is also easier to drive given the fact that it is smaller. Hope that helps.

yep...just went from my 05 E55 to a 04 S600.

i had two prior s classes before the e...the 55 was fun, dependable and a joy to drive but i had two problems...it was too small for me and i could NEVER get a race in it.

i wanted the bigger car and the s600 comes loaded with everything, it's comfortable and it's just as fast as the e from the butt dyno...if anything, i think it would take my 55 from a dig...powerbrake up to 1500 and floor it...it hooks everytime and by the time the turbos kick in the car is rolling! if you get a 600, the sport package is a must. the car is decent looking with the sport package...without it...not my cup of tea.

yes...it's the older body style but i shouldn't get hammered for the trade in too bad when i flip it for a 07s600 in a year or so.

when it cools off i'll take it to the strip and baseline it...then get the renntech kit...which is very appealing also for the 600 engines. such a simple mod with huge gains and if the mb dealer installs the kit, they will usually cover the warranty work.

just my $.02 worth.

Look at the '06 S65's as well. I picked one up for my father a few months ago. 17K/88,000. Deal was to sweet to pass up and the car has performed flawlessly to date.
