Installed Johnson CM30 pump
I got the pump in yesterday and got under the car to see how difficult the install would be. It was remarkably simple. The most difficult part was just removing the hoses and getting coolant all over you..However, the stock hoses clamped right up to the Johnson with no problem. I was even able to put the smaller Johnson pump in the same housing as the stock pump with just wrapping some extra rubber around it. The last thing to do was i just crimped the stock wires and mated them with the bare wires for the Johnson pump. The whole install took less than 45 minutes including removing the bottom plastic cover of the front of the car.
1st impressions:
I tried to run the car as hard as possible to see if I could get the blower to shut off. I couldn't run it all that hard but at the same time the power was always there.
I was more concerned with the fact that it would keep the air intake temperatures lower than normal, which it seemed to do. The car lights the tires up in 1st gear at will and seems to have more ***** for sure.
I have just one question forthose who may know.....When I removed the old pump, I lost what seemed to be about a quart of coolant(i was expecting all of it to come out). So I just added about that much to the reservior.....Is it that simple or is there a need to purge the system or what? If so, what should I do to it? Thanks, Steve

Best case scenario, you should have flushed the system with new coolant to get out air bubbles that can get trapped in er. That can be a pain hooking up the hoses and having someone pour in fluid etc.
VRUS mentioned a few guys have had that problem. Keep checking that res for a week or so to make sure.
Real test is the datalogger and checking those IAT's.

You said your car feels like it has more *****...did you actually see some power gains? I didn't think this mod netted anything more than having the supercharger run much longer under high loads.

The supercharger shutting off is the EXTREME symptom of ultra high IAT's. However, it can still be on, however since the IAT is so high, you are losing power anyway....
I am thinking now that if cooling the temps down this much makes a difference, then perhaps i should install a larger heat exchanger also to get them down even more....the install seems simple. thoughts?

The way I understand it is that with a faulty IC pump....it doesnt necesarily mean that the supercharger will shut off at high IAT's and otherwise the car runs 100%.....

a larger heat exhcanger will difinitely help but what you could do that might give a noticable benefit and wouldn't cost more than a few dollars is simply separate the i/c and engine cooling circuits. it's as simple as removing the "t" fitting and reconnecting the hoses together. it would be interesting to see how much benefit is available with the oem heat exchanger if it's on it's own circuit.

the engine coolant and i/c coolant mix and should be separated for better efficiency...but nevermind, i forgot that he would also need to add a reservoir so it's not quite as simple as i stated. regardless, it would still be fairly cheap and easy so it might be worth some invetigation.

...........As for US vs Australia, I think the pump is the same bosch oem pump. People in the Us change their pumps for two reasons. First is if the pump fails. Second reason is if you have a larger crank pulley adding more boost and generating more heat. I have never been convinced that a higher flow rate pump is better, but I who knows.

U.S. or Euro cars all use the same pump,over 13 different models use this same pump,including the SLR.

the cm30 flows 30lpm, around twice the oem bosch unit. the cm30 is rated for the same life hours as the new cm90 so it is just as durable. it's MUCH smaller than the cm90 (even smaller than the oem pump) and because of this doesn't require special mounting, or cutting of stock brackets. the cm30 inlet/outlet is nearly identical to stock so there is no need to replace any lines with a larger diameter and you won't have to worry about cavitation.

there is no cmo90. the co90 and cm90 flow 90lpm but the cm90 is significantly larger and supposedly more durable than the discontinued co90. both 90 series pumps require 1.5" diameter inlet lines to prevent cavitation and pump damage so running new lines must be considered. because of it's size, possible cutting of brackets and new mounting hardware is also needed.

The difference btw the pumps' performance are :-
The CM90 flows 90l/min at 0.25 bar..
The CO90 flows 90l/min at 0.15 bar..
The CM30 flows 26l/min at 0.1 bar..
The CM90 flows 90l/min at 0.25 bar..

if somebody has a data logger it would be nice to see the before and after on a E55.
if you are modded with pullies, even better.

Having scanned a lot of cars - 55 data will look very much like 32.
Cars with pulleys are about 25-30F higher under boost and very similar during cruise.

probably someone with a shop who can sell it to a customer for much more...i mean most of us here have to have some sort of business savy to get into these cars
