new E55 vs. AMG 300 CE 6.0 (from 1988)
a really interesting test about old- and new-school AMG´s, but it is in german. it also contains some nice fotos. here is the article

Great to see the car making the rounds of German magazines. Since I don't have time to translate it, could you sum up the finding and views stated in the article for us? I saw the raw numbers, but I would like to know their overall impressions of the evolution of AMG. Thank you.

they told that the old 300 CE was a real eye-catcher on the street (only 12 were build), cuz of its wide body works and 14years ago the power was also stunning.
but the new E55 beat it in every category, the engine is so awsome. the writer of the article was really impressed about the 700nm torque and the massive acceleration with almost zero delay. the engine is not so quiet, compared to other new E-classes but sound like "there is something BAD under the hood".
the 300 CE handles really a bit heavy and hard compared to the superior E55 which feels like the car was at least 600pound lighter than it really is.
and the best, new one cost about the half of the old....if that is no progress
