Ok people. As you know Wolf just got a new SL55 and it got us talking about which is actually faster. The SL sure feels faster but is it really? What do you guys think?

08 SL55 has 40bhp more than the E55 if stats are to be believed. Will be close but that may outweigh the weight deficit. Depends how strong your E is, but E is an ulitimate sleeper so wins either way.

Wagons are killer at the track. Put that extra weight over the rear and whammo!
Hey, have we ever had a T at the track before?? This could be a first.

Do the E55T's come with 2.65 or 2.81? If its the same as a sedan than lift a 2.81 LSD and he'll never catch you

Out Of Control!!
I am betting on the E based on my practical experience. I raced a 2007 SL55, 510 HP with RENNtech upgrades consisting of air box, headers, pulley, and ECU. My car is bone stock and there were two people in my car. He was alone. We raced 3 times, all on a freeway and rolling at different speeds. I was expecting to see nothing but the rear end of his car, but much to the surprise of both of us, our cars were almost perfectly matched. The person who hit the gas first, pulled the other. Not by much, but nonetheless, pulled on the other. My guess is the SL is heavier and that made the difference.
So, Kim, go
vs
and collect some data and report back with the test results.

Ok people, where is someone who knows when I need them
I wonder if it is technically illegal to race from a stop light to the speed limit if we don't break the speed limit? Is that still drag racing?

But, you have an advantage. You can tell the cops that your husband left home without his American Express Card. You told him not to leave home without it and you were just bringing it to him.

SL55 AMG, M5 E60, 2002 S55 AMG, Range Rover Sport Supercharged,
I have an SL55 AMG.
Sorry to be a little biased myself here, but my bet is on the SL55. But is it a brand new 2008 SL or an older one? The newer ones have around 515 horses and 530 lb ft but still heavy.
Older ones (the one I got sitting in the garage) have 493 horses, 516 lb ft.
I'm expecting probably a close race. Depends on the drivers' skills on who is pull each other I'm thinking.

The SL does have the 2.82 but it still feels slower imho. Having had both since late 2003 I can say the SL55 feels far slower when you try to get around slower cars on the freeway. I had a passenger with me on my way to take my E55 for a showing (being sold) and his first comment was "this car runs a lot harder than your SL55."
Put that same rear end ratio in the E55 and it would be a serious beast. But some people on the forum already did that and they agree!
I bet the E55T and the 2007 SL55 are pretty close as far as performance as they are very close weight wise and the SL has a slight power bump to make up for the few extra pounds (and the rear end ratio).
Kim, time for a late night run from say 40-120 out on the 14 or the 5

Okay. It's a 2007 already broken in.
Good. Start the race!
I'm still on the SL55 regardless whether it's 2007 or even 2003!

E55 AMG + Mustang GT
Yep, thats still illegal. In fact, even if you're alone at a stop light and you accelerate fast off the line, the officer can give you a ticket for accelerating too fast. I forget what thats called, but I remember reading about that.
