I know you E55/E63 guys luv perf so.. 2008 Viper vs. 2007 C6Z06
http://www.caranddriver.com/carvideos/
Hope it's not a re-post? enjoy...
Funny side note, Just got my latest C&D subscription in the mail, full write up on the new Viper w/600HP vs C6 Z06... Funny part is the writer says & I quote... "At lower RPM the Viper exhaust sounds like a tuba having sex with a vacuum cleaner!"
Although in the video it sounds frickin' SWEET to me! But the video deffinitely doesn't show the Viper @ lower RPM....LOL...
ALMOST FORGOT THE TEST RESULTS..
2008 Viper 600HP
Weight 3455lbs
0-60 3.5 sec
1/4 mile 11.60 @ 126mph
Top speed 202mph!
C6 Z06 505HP
Weight 3100lbs
0-60 3.7
1/4 mile 11.70 @ 125
Top speed 198mph
Both have 6 speed manual trans
Another odd thing the Viper redlines @ 6250 RPM's???? Guess I don't know squat about motors but I would think the Viper would be like the BMW redlining @ 8000+ RPM's
Z06 Vette @ 7000 RPM's
The new Viper HP doesn't kill the Z06 as some/most would think, they added 95 BHP making it have a better top end, the Torque only went up by 20 at the crank! from the older model...
Lastly the C&D team voted the Z06 1st place overall! they outfitted the Viper w/Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's while the Z06 got the *****y Badyear Runflats! things are like skateboard wheels lol...

Personally, I consider it embarrassing for the Viper that all that extra money and all the lack of creature comforts (it is not a car you could drive every day) and it barely beats the Z06. Heck, put Pilot Sports on the Z06 and they would be neck and neck.
A couple grand in mods and the Z06 toasts the Viper.
Tom
P.S. Full disclosure requires that I admit I own a 2007 Corvette convertible that I love.

1/4 mile in 11.6@126, top speed of 202MPH and a
0-150 MPH in 17.0 sec...all for 86,000 with a factory
warranty. Nothing to be embarassed about that.. In fact DC will be the first to mention that the car is not for everyone...and that is just the way we like it.
Just a note, author said track was a bit damp and we all know what a slippery surface does for the numbers......and a driver's confidence. A driver also needs some 'time' behind the wheel of a Viper to learn its' driving needs. Not a car for the faint of heart.

It truely is a great time to be a car enthusiast. If it weren't for all this HP competition the car companies would just be complacent with their products and wouldn't be 'pressured' to one up the competitors.

I think it is sad that the Viper has 100 more HP and in all of the recent tests has only beaten the Z06 by a tenth and 1-2 mph in the 1/4. Just goes to show you how much of a role gearing and weight plays when it comes to acceleration.
Just imagine some of the numbers we will see from the upcoming ZR1 Vet..

WHO IS DC???? Hopefully you are not referring to DaimlerChrysler? Lets drop the partnership as finally they did.....
