I belive that these cars get tested for optimum performance at the factory, so it is kinda already broken in. I started driving it hard on the way home from the dealer, have currently 37000 miles and never a problem.

IMHO no break in required just make sure it shifts smoothly and lets you get close to the red line w/o upshifting too quickly

Here's an interesting article by Frank Markus of Motor Trend discussing this controversy. For me, with my new $100,000 car, I follow the AMG recommended breakin.

On a serious note both methods can be argued back and forth. I believe in following the recommended engine break-in procedure just in a more aggressive manner.

Juice, I want to keep up with that car of yours. It's the test car for "first break ALL the rules.

what about the "little black box"?
I've bought several new high end sports cars over the past several years and sadly for me, (but happily for any buyer of those cars) I've always followed the manuf recommended break in....and that is 2000 miles of 4000 rpm or lower driving on Porsches!!! That sucks big time, but if there's any good that comes out of it, it's that it forces you to explore and learn the other attributes of the car (handling for instance) while you're ticking off the miles in anticipation of that final break-in mile.
I've always wondered......would a vehicle's "little black box" record the maximum revs on an engine? So once you took the car in for it's first oil change, would the tech be able to see what the maximum recorded RPM's were during the break in period? If so, and if you had warranty issues, I wonder if they'd void the warranty in an extreme case?
