DIY Header Install

I received my Evo headers Thursday and installed them yesterday so if anyone's interested in DIY, here's some pics. I did this myself but I can see where a second body would have helped dropping the exhaust.

Remove the air filters, tubes, and coil packs.

Disconnect the front half of the exhaust system and slide it out of the way.

Remove the stock manifolds and disconnect the steering shaft while your under there so the drivers side will fit.

Bolt headers in place with new gaskets and torque to spec.

Bottom view....business end.

Bolt the coil packs and other intake bits in place.

Intall exhaust and O2 sensor connections. Start it up check for any leaks or loose connections and your good to go.

Done. This ended up just being a cool pic with the light in the garage.

Always nice to see somebody take the time to do a DIY write up!

Any pics of the drivers side install?

Staring at your garage floor makes me dizzy!

Yes, I wrote that above the third pic. It was actually very easy, one 13mm hex bolt and that was it.

1=air filter change and 10=full engine rebuild...... I'd say about 5-6 if you're doing it alone. After I was done I wanted to give the inventor of the wobble extension an award.

Excellent build quality and it was a true bolt-on upgrade. The car is definitely pulling harder and more willing to accelerate at higher speeds if that makes sense.

You got it! That will be next on my DIY list, then maybe separating the supercharger cooling circuit and adding a secondary heat exchanger, and eventually installing a Quaife LSD.

2005 E55 drowned/ 2011 CTS-v coupe gone/ 2012 E63 PP,LSD finally here
how about sound? is it much different from stock, noticeably louder? or is it just a nice mellow growl, this is a mod I plan on doing and am curious about the effect it had on exhaust db's, I have heard the kleeman's with cats removed and thought it was a little loud

It's a very mellow growl but sounds good. All cats are still in place. I should have held my db meter three feet from the exhaust before and after the install. Oh well.

I'd love to know if these would fit a RHD car. Are the headers symetrical? I've been told by Evosport that do not - but I aint so sure ???

Brian, Vadim?

Nicely done BrianS ,

Quick question,
What made you go for the evosport headers, apposed to other tuner headers?
As I am thinking of purchasing a set in the near future

Also can the car run headers with out ECU tune?
Will ECU tune give more out of the headers?

Thanks
