Windows opened do create a lot of drags.... just open your windows and speed... there's a lot of winds going inside your car. Even the rear windows would become an unnecessary frontal area.
Define "a lot".... Just a guess... I think coupe is at most 0.1-0.2 second faster in 1/4 than convertible. This may translate to almost nothing on a street race, especially from rolling. We can't even tell for sure from a video if a car is only 1/4 car length ahead from the other car.
Plus knowing a wide range of 1/4 mile time of one car (M6 is ~0.5sec; E63 is also ~0.5sec), there are some E63's faster than M6's (vert or coupe) and there are some M6's faster than E63's.
So unless you do controlled races (emphasize in controlled) on numbers of different E63's vs. numbers of different M6's, you could hardly come w/ any sensible and credible conclusion.

Come on down Fri...never ran against the M6. I am not one of those AMg is better than M is better than p-cars.
i just enjoy good clean racing. At the track though where it is more controlled....start at same time etc. It seems alot of people on these forums love talking trash but have never even seen a track. Anyway I will go up against any stock car out there. If it is modded will run against it too....but if HEAVILY modded I would have to bring out the Viper to even the playing field.

Since when has the 6 series become a roadster??? I feel it's actually a direct competitor to the CLK, both are cabriolets and are in a similar price range. The SL550 value is around par to the M6 and the 55 is quite a few pennies more...

Gustav, i know u really love the M cars but just bashing all the AMG cars and all that bull***** moderation over on the m5board makes anyone who likes the M6/M5 seem like an idiot.
I know AJ, as a matter of fact ask him how my brother's (snags/alex) E55 was against his on some fun runs on the Exotix for Charity Run in NJ. His E55 is fast but are both fairly matched machines. Neither one is really better than the other, they just both have different characteristics and in some areas one is a little better than another.
I'm tired of hearing how the 55 AMG is faster than the M5/M6 and the M5/M6 is faster than the 55 AMG. We know that the M performs to its best in its higher speeds because it was built a little more dedicated to it. Then the 55AMG has better all-around acceleration. The E55 is really easy to modify but a modified M5/M6 is an awesome car as well. Avery with the white M5 on that run had some great power. E55/SL55 and M5/M6 are good comparos.
Who really cares, just stop talkin so much *****. AJ's car did not smoke that E63 nor vice versa... it was all on the jump. Everything is so situational unless your AMG or M is nicely modified to give it that big difference.
BTW The M6 convertible is a direct competitor to the SL55, not the CLK or SLK. Price ranges might be off but BMWs have always had a lower price point, especially when comparing AMGs and Ms... both lines have slightly different conceptive thinking of what their own performance machine is and has. BlackBenz your videos are almost as pointless as Gustav's... I remember that monster CL600. Nicely modded and fast as hell, VERY impressive... so how does this fit into this whole discussion?... firstly they are not nearly based on the same principles and the M6 is completely stock minus the speed limiter. The CL600 is a V-12 bi-turbo cruising machine, now plus those mods it makes it crazy fast... its gonna fly by a ton of cars. The M5/M6 is a completely different animal, it doesn't have the same purpose... why do you think you didn't see the CL600 slicing through traffic and such? Your Kleeman CLK55 might be fast as hell, it looks great... but how does this have anything to do with a stock E63 vs a stock M5/M6. You will definitely smack around a few cars with that thing, including a few higher-end AMGs.

Why do BMW insist on making their coupe models look like sad fish from the front whilst their saloons look very good from the front?
Compare for one moment the M5 and the M6. The M5 front is mean and aggressive and looks fine. The M6 front looks like a depressed guppy. Same for the Z4, that reminds me most of a parrot fish.
That explains why the AMG driver deliberately lost, he did not want to have to look at Mrs. Puff in his rear view mirror.
