2018 E63S,
Car is SHUDDERING

I dont get it....cant figure out the problem. I have 20" wheels on my E55. After about 5000 trouble free miles with the wheels, my car started shaking violently at speed. Slowed down to about 10 mph before the problem disappeared. Brought it to a stop to check for a flat. No problem. Got going again and the problem was gone for about 20 miles. Later at speed (~75mph) car started shuddering violently again. Stopped inspected, no problem. Figured that the wheel was out of balance. Took the wheels off, inspected for a missing weight. All the weights were there. Put the stock rears on and the shuddering has been gone for over 100 miles. Took the 20"s to get balanced and they true and were NOT out of balance. So what gives? Anyone else have this problem?

I wonder if there is a clearance problem. Have you lowered the car? If you do a search for wiggle or waggle you will find many posts on tire rub in the rear wells that cause the car to shutter. Try raising the car with the "raise botton" and see if that makes it better. Did you inspect the tires for even a tiny bit of rubbing?

+1...I think Torquey had that problem with 295's and the damage was on the inside part of his wheel well. Do a search on "wiggle" or "waggle" under the 211AMG sub forum...I forgot what exactly the description but I think KensE55 (rest in peace) had the same problem, too.

I was running 295 in the rear and had the shutter also. That's why I suggest really looking at the tires. It was very subtle were only one was rubbing causing the problem. I went to 285s and no shutter.

I have this problem when it comes to driving when it has been raining out. I get a collection of water in my HREs and as I speed up faster, it throws the wheel out of balance a bit. Its kind of annoying, but my answer is to just not drive this car when it rains anyways... (sucks getting caught out though.)

Make sure it wasn't rain related. That is just the price you pay for fatter tires.
