Everyone,

Once again I'd like to extend a "Thank You" to everyone from this board, M5board, and 6Speedonline who attended on Saturday and made it possible to even hold this event. Also, thank you to Boardwalk Porsche for donating the cases of bottled water and to LA Fitness for use of the tent for shade.

In addition, a very special "Thank You" goes out to ///Wall_ST (Scott from M5board), AMGcrazy (Todd), and GlobalM3 (Dritan from 6Speedonline). Both Scott and Dritan were critical to making sure this event took place and ensuring the catering was secured along with insurance and other obligations. Todd was of tremendous help during the event by ensuring we had supplies and by helping to coordinate cars and runs.

We will be hosting another event very soon. Scott and I will determine the next possible time based on the airport availability. For grins, we could make it an AMG vs M only event and invite the local Mercedes and BMW dealership to participate as well. Sort of a true German car rival shootout. Let me know if this is of interest or if we should open it up to a wider audience.

From a cost perspective it might go up a bit since we didn't really compensate the local airport personnel for their time (they volunteered). I don't think they'll do it for free next time. We worked very hard to keep the costs down to nearly nothing ($20-$30/person) for the first time. I think realistically it might need to be at $50 per person for an all day event if we use the same amount of people helping out next time. Of course, it all depends on how many people we get to show up.

Post some thoughts in this thread about what you feel is realistic for a full day of fun on an airstrip with catered lunch so I can see if it's possible to do this again.

You all rock!

Regards,

Darren

i'd certainly like to make a future event and have no problem with an admission fee. i think an amg v. m event would get boring pretty quickly. however, if you run cars for a while then set up an elimination type event with a prize waiting for the winner(s), that could be pretty cool.

Yes, thank you all for the hard work needed to make this event happen. It was quite a unique experience and we made a lot of people from other parts of the country jealous.

$50 for a full day of fun is a bargain. Think of some other all day events that are cheaper; you'd have a hard time coming up with many. How much does a few hours at a 1/4 mile dragstip cost? Not a whole lot less and you don't get lunch with it nor can you get up to the same speed or pair up however you want to in a relaxed atmosphere.

AMG vs M might be fun. We had more M5s and E55s than you could shake a stick at. If we can get some of the other types to show up it would be interesting. M3s, M6, 63s, and 65s would be nice. Though we know those 63s are dogs... My only thought about inviting the dealerships is having it turn into a marketing/sales event rather than car enthusiasts getting together and having some fun. Though thier sponsorship would help offset the cost.

Let's leave the camera crew at home this time. As cool as it was they ate up a lot of our time setting up cameras and doing interviews and they were really only interested in the exotics anyway.

I think we got the problem of getting the cars going solved at the end; that turned a lot of folks off early on unfortunately. At first there was some confusion as to what to do to get into a race and ended up just sitting around scratching our heads for a while. After lunch we had a car logjam as everyone just started pulling up ***** nilly. We got it sorted out and the latter part of the evening was going really well. Should probably set up and mark some staging lanes and something to help people get paired up easier.

Other than the first time teething hiccups it was a great event. Maybe some more shade if it's going to be really hot and sunny out.

Keep us posted with any ideas as you come up with them.

Looking forward to going again and I know my brother is to.

Darren,

Thanks for the recognition! I'll be willing to help out in any capacity you need for the next one. My wife maybe not so much!

$50 is nothing. We've all got the money for mods, so a little donation to test them out should be no problem.

I don't think we need to limit the participation to AMG/M, let's just do a little coordination before hand with the runs everyone wants to see based on the cars attending and mods everyone has. We could do this very simply and relatively quickly after everyone is signed in. Then just stage em up! You guys got it together towards the end and it sounds like it went even better after I left. I personally loved watching all the exotics along with our cars, so I wouldn't limit their participation.

I agree with bfnnrgn (tommy I think) that we should leave the camera crew out. They held us up a lot. Just have a few in car cams for each run and one at the finish line. Hell the finish line one could be on a tripod and the track monitor could press play and stop for each run. I don't have a camera, but there were enough personal cameras floating around that we could use a few for all the races and download the footage to someones pc at the end of the event to post on the boards.

Screw the dealerships, let's get the Bud Girls! Oh sorry forgot, family event!

Anyway once again AWESOME event The next one will be even better!

I wish I could have made it out, but I didn't know when you guys moved the date to, and Park Place has my CLS hostage anyway! Ugh! I'd love to make the next one! Legal street racing sounds fun!

FINALLY got my car back yesterday.

The repair was to the "transmission control module." It was replaced after it's electronics were fried from some transmission fluid getting on it.

Anyway, I will definitely make the next meet. I was really pissed I couldn't make the first one; I would've whooped all those M's (yeah, right)

Great job with all the vids and commentary guys. Looked like fun.
