Before you start getting too excited, lets establish the credentials of his source and how much he was actually quoted.

Instead of shelling out $250k aud for the Aussie E55, convert your money to USD ($140k), buy a plane ticket to the US, purchase a US E55 for, say $80k and use the other $60k as a down payment on a nice condo, house or use the money to travel the US in your E55. Leave the wife at home you can find another here very easy in the Mercedes.

Just received another update by email - the author doesn't know any more than the indicative price range, which was only given as an estimate, so cannot be relied upon, but around the $75K mark is what MBUSA staff are obviously thinking.

Stop this discussion and go enjoy your E55s instead!!!
Guys, does it matter how much the W211 E55 is going to be? This is totally out of our control and all these estimations are really useless. MBNA is going to set the price which ever way they want, and if you can afford it, buy it. If not move on to something else. Some of you may want the new E55 bad enough that you will pay over the MSRP for it. So all you E55 owners, go have fun with your cars and stop losing sleep over the price of the new E55. It is totally irrelevant.

Relevance is a highly individual entity.
Tell it to the guys in the lab who make it their life's work to characterize and differentiate the digestive systems of various types of nematodes and flatworms.
One man's chaff is another man's substance.

The debate is not about nickels or dimes. The arguments originally started out with members saying a 15% increase and a $85k base price. If the estimate of $72,500 is close then that is a lot less than $85k or 15%.
I am not losing sleep over this debate are you?

Kev, get real, what do you expect from a clown who's riced up S430 ended up costing him like S55 with the performance of ford taurus? That is also the same clown who a while back was mumbling something about my posts here, if you can find it-highly recomended. it was a juicy mixture of eminem, baggy pants and I forgot what else but apparently "things" that interest him. YOu read that and what he wrote to you will sound just right.

I see neither where this "debate" is leading nor how it got here in the first place.
I have seen the article myself. It does list a price of "$72,500" est.
Last time I checked, "est." stands for "estimated," as in "estimated base price."
This is definitely not a confirmed figure, and it cannot even be considered close to one.
On a side note, take a look at the price increases of the other relevant AMG models. There is little chance that the E55's base price will be raised by only $2000.

A 35% increase $74,047
A 40% increase $76,790
A 45% increase $79,532
A 50% increase $82,275
A 55% increase $85,017
A 60% increase $87,760
I don't think that MBUSA would increase the price of a single car by more than 40%?
