Pretty sure it's good ole fashioned steel.

ASP sure is judging by that weight.

I assume you mean the OEm one? If so, it is steel. It is a softer steel than the crankshaft, but that may have been an engineering thought.
Some companies make aftermarket billet ones.

I still want to see data showing any differences in weight alone between a steel and a billet pulley.

Stock pulley is grey iron casting.

Billet aluminum is T6061 and about 2 lbs lighter.

How about for the E63? What would a lighter crank pull help with?

Do you think weight alone plays much of a role? Could we potentially keep the boost consistent but lower the drag by lowering the weight?

I am not advocating smaller pulleys. I want an oversized one. But, I wonder if a really nice one that is still smaller and lighter than an ASP may be able to deliver as much to the floor?

Sorry newb, the pulley we are talking about is the one that spins the super charger. Nothing like it for the 63. You can still play pulley games and gain in different ways, but I don't know that the gains are worth it and they have not been released on the 63 by any tuner yet.

You should hook up with Vadim @ GMG (same thread). He has a plan for the 63 and a proven track record of developing just such a thing.

I suppose the newb comment is due to my lack of posts vs my knowledge of auto mechanics. The topic touched on crank pully's ... in my mind crank = crank shaft...not SC pully's, but don't worry I'll be sure to keep my nose out of anything SC related...

And yes, I'll be in touch with Vadim.

Absolutely, it was about your post count. I am definitely no more than an enthusiast, so there was none of that. You are more than welcome to throw in any thoughts you have on SCs. I love the technical talk, since I learn so much.

Definitely talk to Vadim. He is one of the few around that I trust right now, PLUS he happens to be into what you are after.
