E55 vs. Viper, 3 Corvettes & Mustang
I took my E55 to the Silver State Classic Challenge this year and got second place in my class! I was up against a Viper, 2 Corvettes, a Mustang and a 330i. Not bad for a rookie.
I also did the 1/2 mile shootout and got 11th out of 21 cars. I was up against some pretty modified Corvettes, Vipers, Shelby GT's, etc. I did however beat 2 Z06's, a 06 Saleen SCS281, some C6's, a Viper RT/10, a Lotus Elise, a Carrera, etc. Not bad for a completey stock E55.
It is going to be featured on Torque.TV (new automotive network) in a couple of weeks. Check out www.torque.tv in the meantime. There is blog about the event as well.

Congartulations! It is a fun race to run.
I used to run it in mid 90s. Ran in four races, finished 2nd in 140 mph class one time and 3rd in 120 mph the other. Two other times did not finish, both times problems with tires.
The last time I ran I had a blow-out at 160 mph. As I was trying to gain control of the car and get-off the road I had a very brief conversation with St. Peter during which I decided to make it the last race. St. Peter was pissed as I was cutting ahead of the line.
Before the road was repaved, it was a lot more "interesting" ride. Getting air under all four at over 150 mph was not unusual.

Nice! It is not easy to get a podium finish in those classes. It is definately a gnarly race. I only did the 100mph class as it was my first time. I might do the 110 or the 120 next year.
I was the only AMG out there. We need MBWorld to represent next year and dominate.
Guys...you know when you are out in the desert and think to yourself, wouldn't it be great if no one is on the road and no cops to worry about? Well, the Silver State Classic Challenge is the answer. It is 90 miles of open highway, high speed race against the clock. I would definately recommend anyone interested to go next year. It was an experience of a lifetime.

Attached are some more pics from the event.
- Highway Picture - What it's like during the race...open highway, no cops, triple digits!
- LV Motor Speedway - Early Morning car inspection.
- Silver State E55 2 - Car before event.
- Viper - About a minute after this picture, this Viper went off the road at 200mph. He was doing the 0-200-0 (z2z) contest and the backend went out on him during braking...he went off the right side of the road and crossed over to the left and went through a fence and probably 1/4 mile into the desert. Pretty crazy to see. He was okay...couldn't believe it...I thought he was dead.
- EVO- This car was the quickest out there. No one thought it would be. It was up against twin turbo Z06's, Twin Turbo Vipers, Etc. He blew them away. BUT, on his last run the motor blew, oil went all over his windshield and he went off the road 180mph+. Crazy...lucky to be alive too.
