I've been in touch with a chap who is advertising an E55 2004 (50000 on the clock) on ebay for only £8200 ! Now this guy rekons he needs to raise the money for a kidney transplant hense the cheapness. Has ANYBODY heard of this guy or had dealings with him cuz it just seems too good to be true.


His name is seane simmons but on his email he calls himself Tony Libbey

He has stated that the transaction will be done through ebays Motors Vehicle Purchase Protection.


Heres the actual email he sent me:-

About the car : EVERYTHING ON THE CAR IS NEW. IT DRIVES EXCELLENT AND RUNS PERFECT, IT HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY KIND OF ACCIDENTS, AND HAS NO UNKNOWN MECHANICAL PROBLEMS, what can I say the car looks and drive like NEW!!! I have all the documents which I can transfer the car to your name.
I apologize for ending my listing but one of the bidders told me he will send me the money today for my car but in this moment he is unable to send me the payment. He had a problem with the loan so it's still available if you want to buy it.
At this time I am out of the country traveling to Germany as I have floating kidney and I will suffer a transplant operation at the end of the next week. I need to sell the car to raise some cash for the kidney transplant operation.
As I am not available to meet you in person I will pay for the shipping costs. The car will be shipped from Hamburg, Germany.
So...I hope to obtain for my car £ 8,200.00 GBP.
You will receive all the papers and documents (V5 document, car`s manual etc.) to prove the ownership of the car. The V5 document and all the papers from the car will be shipped together with the car and the keys, so you can become the owner on the spot. Also you should know that the car is still registered in UK so you don't need to register it.
You have nothing to worry about this deal because it will be done in a secure way. The most important thing in all my activities, is that I have a Purchase Protection Account for £ 10,000.00 GBP and I assume you know what this means.

Sorry for the delay, I read your last tow e-mails and I understand your concern about the price and legit of the transaction.
Look how the transaction through eBay works:
1. I need your contact details (ebay username, complete name and the address for shipping),
2. I will open a case with eBay regarding our transaction, they will contact and send you the documents from transaction (Case ID,
Invoice),
3. You will have to make a wire transfer in an eBay account, they will keep your payment until you receive the car.
4. a. When you receive the car you have 5 days to check the car (test it, drive it, take it to a local service if you want), so you can see if everything it's ok with the car.
4. b. If the car doesn't match with what I told you, you will ship it back to me on my expense (also this is not a case because the car is GREAT!!!!).
5. You will have to notify eBay that you want to buy the car and ONLY THEN THEY WILL TRANSFER THE MONEY IN MY ACCOUNT!!!! Remember they will not release me the money until they got your approval.
6. After we complete all this steps you got the car and I got the money.
So don't waste time and send me your contact details so I can open a case with eBay ASAP.

The phrases "wire transfer", and "your ebay user name, full name & address"

Should have you running for the hills... tell him you will give him £9k on delivery and see how quickly he back pedals.... dont send him any personal details ... it may be worthwhile to change your email address to be honest if he has it. If you been using ebay messaging then make sure your email is not broadcast.

He says nothing of the cars performance which for this car is also very unusual ...

 

Definite scam. A legitimate seller could quickly and easily convert a pristine E55 into a much larger sum of cash.

This is a SCAM for sure. eBay does not approve of wire-transfers. His case-ID thing is a hoax, ebay does not act as an "escrow agent" in the manner that he describes. Read the eBay guidlines and policies, trust me AVOID THIS GUY. Actually, send his emails to spoof@ebay.com. They will investigate and shut him down.

I've just emailed ebay....Ill let you know what the outcome is once received.

 

eBay won't care or do anything. There isn't an actual auction involved.

Remember...if it sounds too good to be true.

 

Translation: Quit asking questions and just wire me your money. E-bay is just to make my plans look legit but not really.

While the scam is pretty obvious, there might be a more tactful way to state that (gullible, naive, uninformed, etc.).

And the answer to your question appears to be yes.


PS - Scott, I already took care of your uncle's problem and sent him the check, so you should probably pull that offer off the table (and I only had to send him $7,000 back so you must be pocketing some of it for yourself).
